About that hotel room block contract....

MeganM, on February 26, 2015 at 9:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I blocked out hotel rooms in September for my April wedding. Guests started receiving invitations yesterday that had our wedding website, which had our hotel information. One of my guests called last night to see how much a room cost and was told there were no more available rooms! Thank goodness she thought that sounded strange....she called my MOH who called my mom, who called FH. I called the hotel last night and of course no one could help me unril this morning. When I called, they said that they had extended stay guests that were staying longer than expected. What I don't understand is that we have a contract.....how can they just move it to another hotel? They did not contact me about this. The woman told me that she reached out to me numerous times about this but she did not. I called to ask how many rooms were booked a month ago and she left a message to call her back and she will look it up. When I called today, she said that she was going to tell me about the issue when I called her back. If I would have known that there was an issue this big, don't you think I would have called back right away?? I called the next day (thinking I was only calling about how many rooms were booked so far) and the kid at the frot desk told me so I figured that was over and done with, my question was answered.

They are supposed to call me back this afternoon after they contact the other hotel they will be putting us at but I have no idea if any other guests had called to book just to be turned away, and maybe they wouldn't contact me like this guest did.

Has anyone else had issues like this with their hotel block? Can they even do that??

They technically "can" but are breaching the contract. I am a lawyer, btw.

Is there anything I can really do? They said right now they are calling nearby hotels for availability but they are all further from the venue and I have no idea what the quality of the hotel is even like. This is just so frustrating.

Can you see if they'd throw something else in, like a shuttle to get your displaced guests from the venue to the other hotels? It's a long shot, but they really should do something to make it up to you since THEY broke the contract.

Futuremrslav's idea is a really good one. The hotel probably already has its own shuttle, so that shouldn't be too hard for them to provide and they are inconveniencing you and your guests a bit.

The shuttle for the hotel is already booked for another wedding. My contract said they pay for 150 towards transportation since their shuttle is booked. I had to take it upon myself to call around and found some rooms at a nearby hotel and a handful at this first hotel. They are now paying for my whole transportation and we have our room for free. At least it's something, but man oh man this was some added stress that I do not need!

Most hotels have no rooms available in the limerick area...something went wrong at the power plant and they brought in thousands of workers to help with the issue, and that's what the problem was I guess. Still not happy, but I guess I have rooms for some guests and my groom and myself. Thanks for the advice ladies Smiley smile

Glad to hear they gave you something to make up for it. I had something similar happen to me when the venue gave the suites that I had reserved to other people. The wedding manager had not communicated with the reservations department. I went a bit ballistic on them as did my FH. In the end, they gave me two rooms for the price of one in a corner of the hotel which had enough privacy to be like a suite. It was a good enough exchange.

I hope that no further mishaps occur for you. This sure can get very stressful!
