a year and a half out- Taking the time to enjoy your engagment

Jacklyn, on December 22, 2022 at 2:48 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

Hello all, this is my first post on this forum.

My fiancée and I got engaged November 3rd and cannot believe the amount of people that skipped over the congratulations part to ask me when the wedding was and 'of course you'll invite me right?'

I shouldn't be surprised as a lot of these people are 'internet friends', you know the ones that accumulate on your snapchat lists and creep in the background. I guess the point is, I definitely felt the rush to start running in and planning everything in a week. I was able to step back and start leisurely planning and have really taken my time looking at everything. I feel like I have made some great choices not rushing into things, as well as truly enjoying time with the man I love and our engagement. Just because we are engaged does not mean we put ourselves on the backburner to please others.

We also shaved our guest list down from 200 to 60, with the goal of us spending our money on us and our closest friends and family.

Weddings are fun, but don't let it run your life or your relationship. Flowers are great, but don't let it take away from your shine. The photographer is key but don't forget to smile for yourself and spend time with your family. People that come to your wedding might not talk to you next year. Bigger isn't always better.

Relax and make sure you take care of yourself and your partner. Smiley heart

Great job enjoying your engagement! There is no need to feel extra pressure, and it's so frustrating that people ask those kinds of questions. When we got engaged -- day of -- we called our parents and immediate family to tell them, and more than one person asked when we were getting married. Like, we got engaged 2 hours ago. That's such a rude question.

I applaud your mentality! And I hope the planning process goes smoothly! 60 people is going to be so intimate and fun!

This is fantastic advice! I did the same thing. I think it’s important to take things slow and really enjoy being a fiancé. After all, we have that title for such a short amount of time- we need to enjoy it while we can! Plus, really taking your time to research and look at your options ensures you will not be rushed into making decisions, and won’t find yourself in the predicament of finding something you like more, changing your mind, having to spend more money to rebuy items, etc.

Congratulations 🎉 I also am taking the long engagement route. I want to be able to take my time and look at each step carefully and not overwhelm myself (I do that a lot). I know your wedding will turn out great😁
