A wedding w/out a photobooth? The horror!! Anyone else going with no booth?

After months of agonizing over whether or not we will hire a photobooth, FH and I discussed we really would rather not have one. This decision is based on an actual experience we had when we threw a party for my daughter back in April. People LOVED the photobooth, that wasn't the problem. The problem was nobody really socialized or danced ... instead there were lines forming at the photobooth, and the only socializing was over the photobooth. FH said he would prefer no photobooth at our wedding, and I have to agree. So on the fence over it. I also think they are an eye-sore ... unless you hire one of those uber expensive fancy schmancy booths that cost over $750 ... not happening for us. Anyone else going w/out a photobooth? It seems I will be the only one. Don't want to disappoint my guests.

We thought about doing one at the beginning but as the budget kept going up we decided to cut it. I am buying disposable cameras for the tables so people can take pictures of themselves for me and I am going to make a scrapbook after the wedding. I figure that people will write what they want to say to me in my guestbook and the Photo Booth is not a necessity.

Never been to a wedding with one. They seem to only add cheap theatrics likes your guests are children and not capable of entertaining themselves.

Aren't photobooths a fairly new concept anyway? I doubt people will miss it.

After looking at the cost of photo booth rental, and comparing it to the cost of materials to make one, we are going to make and program our own. My fiance and I work in the tech industry and think it would be fun to take on this project. In the future, we could share our booth with other friends .
