I'm getting married in September 2010 in Scottdale PA. We are only having like 150 ppl. I have a VFW picked out I have to call. But show I find a place to have the reception that will cater too. But my fiance mother and my mother both said they will make food for us. My mother in law to be is making our cake as a gift. What should I do need help in all parts of this wedding planing.

Omgosh girl... thats a toughie.. but you can do it! does that $5k cover your dress, tux rentals, BM/MOH/GMs gifts (if you have a bridal prty), flowers, the food (even though ppl are cooking for you, the food still costs &dollarSmiley winking, dish & flatware for food, etc? You should start out by making a big master list.. or, use the weddingwire budget tool (i just started really using it yesterday and its been helpful!) to map out every single expense and how much, with a $5k budget you can alot to each item. If you need more help.. ideas.. etc...we are here to help Smiley smile

We're doing ours on the beach, with dress, cake, everything including a beach house for 20 people, under $3K...you could get a BBQ place to do your meats, and then you guys do the sides...you have the food(sides if you want) and cake covered...invites, you can use vista print. i got my direction cards, rsvp's, invites and save-the-dates, for like $80 with shipping...you can do a candy bar to add prettiness and use it as favors. you can rent linens, but buy the hard plastic table ware from party city(which is what we're doing). rather than doing chair sashes, just rent white wooden chairs...if you don't mind, use the middle of your reception hall as a ceremony spot, or section off a certain area for the ceremony, and use sheets or rectangle table linens to divide it. my cousin did this, and it actually turned out good!

Well, idk anything about PA, but is it cool then? w're having an outdoor wedding in march, and the B&B we're using has a little fenced in yard. so to keep the kids entertained, but at eye level for us, we're taking some of my sons dump trucks and toys, and a friend might be loaning us her little tykes slide set so the kids aren't without fun! there's lots of things you can do!

Gina, I am on the same budget, and what I did was took the WW budget tool and added the 5,000.00 and then started deleting things I knew I would use or do. And then you can either distribute that money out to the rest, designate it to one catagory or another or complete delete it and your budget will adjust. It's an awesome tool.

I think a $5,000 budget is definitely do-able, especially if you are realistic about your must-haves and have plenty of time to put into doing the required research and DIY. Our budget was $5,000 for 100 people, and I really think it's going to end up under $4,000.

We could have saved even more, but I'm spending a huge chunk of the budget on myself. My dress was $399 plus tax/shipping (ordered online) and then my accessories were another $100. Also, I've budgeted for professional hair, makeup, and a mani/pedi the day before. Oh, and I've also included a massage for FH the morning of the wedding. (He loves massages, I don't.) So, like I said, we're spending close to 1/4 of our budget on that stuff, but it was really important to me. I figure I'll be stressed out and I don't want to worry about having to do something with my frizzy hair, and I am terrible with makeup, so I didn't even want to think about that!

I understand completely. My wedding is probably going to be less than 3,000, but I have my friends and family helping with the dj, photography, food, and photography.

I'd suggest doing a lot of DIY stuff, ask your friends and family for help with things. You might be able to get flowers from the gardens of people you know if you ask around. The dollar store has lots of affordable stuff for centerpieces, thrift stores have lots of nice stuff too. Shop wholesale for stuff you need in bulk, shop around online for the best prices and try to decide on what you really need to have and what you can live without. I'm doing all my own planning, flower arrangements, making all the dresses, catering with help from the family, having the wedding outside, having friends as the officiants, playing music off a laptop. We are paying for everything, including outfits for the entire bridal party and so far our budget looks as if we won't go over $2,000.

Do you have an idea of your bridal party? I found catering from local resturants for less than $20 a person thats kid friendly. By looking at pictures of weddings I found things I can live with out. I can't live without about 100 peole coming. My dress I am going to pick up from Brids against Breast Cancer which are designer gowns up to 75% off or gently used gowns. Cosco and Sam's club are great for buying in bulk for food items.

Congrats! I planned my wedding with $2000. My guest list is 80 people. I bought on lots of sales. I made my own bouquets and put together my center pieces. I am having my ceremony and reception at the same location. I am using a hall room at a hotel. They will provide tables, chairs and table cloths. I am also making all of my own food. I kept the menu simple but nice. I wish you luck on everything. Smiley smile
