a Sentimental Gift

Tiffany & Charles, on August 21, 2020 at 8:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Hello all!

Does anyone care to share or have any ideas on gift(s) for your bridal party that doesn't say anything like "maid of honor" or "bridesmaid" on it? I have 2 ladies whom I've known since childhood (BFF's), and I want to give them something they can cherish and actually want. I'm thinking more towards something engraved possibly.

Having a hard time to come up with ideas Help!!

Thanks!

I try to gift what I would give them for their birthday, Christmas, and such. My MOH is my niece but we were raised as siblings. I had planned to get her something that expressed that in. A geeky way because we are both into sci-fi and marvel and such.

I got my girls a watercolor cartoon version of my favorite picture of us along with a heartfelt note.

I've been on the personalization train lately for gifts! I usually go for more useful gifts versus "sentimental" so not sure this will help. Things you could monogram or engrave that aren't crazy expensive: Yeti tumbler, cutting board, apron, sherpa blanket, sherpa robe, Ikea outdoor wooden bench - just tons of stuff that I'm sure your friends would love.

I agree with Marabeth - shop as if it's their birthday/Christmas/etc. I would avoid anything that says "bridesmaid" or "maid of honor" or anything with your name/wedding date. You could always do something like: a wine glass engraved with their name, a bottle of wine (maybe create a custom wine label?), a candle, and/or a blanket, etc. Or, you can do gift cards, or pay for a weekend trip for them, or give them framed pictures of you and them.

You know these girls better than anyone. You have heard their wants, desires, I'm sure you've heard something they've always wanted and never got. Maybe it's the silly childhood toy that to this day they joke about saying I wish my parents got this for me. Maybe it's their favorite old book - finding a first edition. Find something that is meaningful to the two of you - that inside joke that no one knows...

A few years ago I got my mom a first edition book of her favorite childhood book. She's talked about this book my entire life. She was so thrilled that she got it and even teared up a little because she hadn't read it since she was a child.

I didn't want my bridesmaids robes to be personalized because I've heard that no one wears them afterwards, so what I did instead is I got them personalized hangers that have their name and their wedding party title so that they have that fun piece to remember the wedding by, but it will still be useful after the event!

I only have one bridal party member, my sister. I'm planning on getting her this Bracelet from Etsy and probably a gift card to her favorite store or restaurant.

Like others, I ended up finding things as if it were their birthday/holiday.

BMs: they happen to be married to each other, so I got matching "I speak fluent Disney" necklaces (Disgeeks), and then individual HP-themed things (also HP nerds) - a Gryffindor notebook for one, a Slytherin card-case for the other. They have their own production company and are writing several musicals, so the non-matching gifts were geared towards that.

MOH: She is a Star Wars super nerd. I found these beautiful triptych prints on Etsy of SW characters, and I put them into a frame.

Bridesman: he was also our fight choreographer, so DH chipped in and we got him a Damascus steel knife.

DH got his groomspeople cufflinks or jewelry, individualized to their relationship. (A set of sword cufflinks for his friend/swordmaster, dogs for his sister, Wonder Woman necklace for his college friend/groomswoman, etc.)

My girls are all getting navy blue pashminas, a navy blue insulated stemless wine tumbler, and a bottle of wine from our venue.
If I have the time and energy, then I’ll get their monogram put on their pashminas or cups or both.
Personally I didn’t use anything that said maid of honor after the wedding so I wanted their gifts to be purposeful and useful outside of the day.
