a question for past brides

__, on August 20, 2020 at 12:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
What is the alteration that makes your dress the easiest to fasten? There’s a good chance I’ll have to get dressed on my own and ask either my hairdresser, makeup artist or photographer to help me get dressed. So what would make it easiest on them? My dress currently has a bunch of tiny buttons on a mesh back pictured below. I’m also going to ask alterations, but just wanted to get some actual opinions from brides who have experience with their dresses and getting them on and off.a question for past brides 1

Dress twins! I'll be having either my mom or sister help me with all my buttons. One of my friends had a lot of button on her dress as well and said she used a crochet hook to help her get them looped. I tried to do the buttons myself at bridals, but was not successful. As for getting it off, FH will be the one to help with that, which I don't think he'll mind

Beautiful dress!!! I don't have experience with this personally, but I found an article that might help!! It looks like it's common to alter the closure on a dress and the seamstress may be able to add a hidden zipper so it will be easy to get on and off.

The back of my dress has tons of those buttons, but it's actually a zipper.

The alteration that would make that dress easiest to fasten would be to have most of the illusion removed so you don't have any buttons or a zipper up the back and then just have one or two buttons at the top, near the base of your neck. That may or may not affect the structural integrity of the dress, but it's definitely worth asking about.

Thank you so much, Tara! I’ll have to see if they could do that on the mesh! And I’ll check out that link. Smiley smile

I think I know what you’re talking about. Do the buttons look buttoned when the zipper zips up? Lol I hope you know what I mean by that. Zipping the dress would be so much easier done on my own, so that would be nice

I’ll have to ask the seamstress! My appointment is in a few weeks, so I’ll ask about this. Thank you!

That’s it (we’re on the same page). Buttons lay beautifully flat and the zipper is completely concealed

Thank you! I’m going to ask if this is an option, cause I do love the buttons, but I need it to not be too hard to do if it ends up just being me myself and I getting me into the dress. Thanks, again! 🖤

You're so welcome! I hope it works out for you. And if not, I'm certain your photographer won't mind helping you at all. I have heard a crochet hook helps (as others suggested). Good luck and I can't wait to see photos!
