Mael: Lord Mortgan Maelstorme Smythe, Knight of the Black Signet, Captain of the Signet Ship Seraph, and Co-Owner of Seraph Enterprises, LLC.

What do you desire?

Mael: To love and protect this lady for the rest of my days as her partner.

Will you have this woman as your partner? Will you love her, comfort her, and honor her? Will you protect her, no matter who might board your ship and attempt to wrest her from you, as long as you both do love?

Mael: Aye.

[To Ceejay] What is your full name and rank? [Constance Jessamine Crisp, now a Writer by name and trade, and a loyal member of the crew of the Seraph, as well as Captain and Owner of the airship called the Spanky.]

Those vows almost make me want to reschedule my wedding to national talk like a pirate day. But then of course if I did that I would feel obligated to invite my old boss who made me talk like a pirate the whole day. And yes, I had to answer the phones that way too...

Ceejay: I, Ceejay Writer take ye, Maelstorme Smythe as me Heart, me Soul, me Salty Jack with a crooked smile, the foggy haze of each new day and the lumpy (but familiar) mattress of each day's night. I promise to love ye and honor ye; to make ye laugh so hard the rum comes out yer nose and pretend to listen to ye when ye babble on about nothin' in particular. A respectable-sized white pearl is mounted atop the ring by an ornate silver owl's foot. Ceejay takes a silver wedding band from Dr. Dayafter's left hand. A small black pearl is mounted atop the ring by an ornate silver owl's foot.)

The ring is the most instantly recognized symbol of partnership. The ring is a circle, indicating the infinity of unbroken love. Like life, it returns back upon itself. Whether the rings are lovingly bought, taken as part of rightful plunder, or stolen from a sunken chest, they symbolize the happiness, wholeness, and love of your partnership. Your exchange of rings shows how your lives are now intertwined. The owl's taloned foot represents the wisdom and patience necessary for a successful partnership. The pearls represent harmony, humility, and hope.
