My fiancé and I are coming to a disagreement. We are keeping our wedding under $10k, we’re having around 75-100 guests, with an open bar. My fiancé doesn’t want to spent $600 on a DJ and figures we could make a playlist and just have that play at the reception and that we can make the announcements....

I, on the other hand know that that day will be stressful and busy and I personally don’t want to deal with the added stress of trying to pay attention to a play list and making announcements. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Open bar was our highest priority, as both of our families love to drink. Also, we moved away and all of our family and friends will have to drive two hours to come to our wedding, so we wanted An open bar for them. Honestly its only $2.75 more a person to have open bar vs just beer and wine and we have to have the bar for 4 hours, we can’t just do two unfortunately.

I mean you also have to think of the first dances. (You and him, mother and father, groom and mother) those are things you’re involved in making the difficult. Also the dj announces the wedding party and bride and groom. I think if you’re doing a play list you need a friend who is will to do all the announcements. It not realistic for you two to do them.

Actually my fiancé and I want to do the same thing. What we are planning on doing is finding someone we trust who loves talking and having them MC at our wedding for us and just making up our own playlist before hand to just play throughout the reception.

My wedding is 12/28/2019, so I can report back on how not having a DJ goes lol

I made the playlists for the preludes before the ceremony, we're only playing one song for the processional, another for the recessional, and then I made playlists for the cocktail hour/dinner, and the reception.

I've honestly been tweaking all of these regularly for the past 6 months (how long I had to plan the wedding).

I have them on Tidal and am marking certain songs as "signal songs" so my MOH/bridesmaids will know they need to make an announcement for coffee & dessert, last call for the bar, last song, etc.

I know it's a TON of work and if I wasn't confident in my great taste in music and ability to put together a coherent playlist I would have hired a DJ. But we're also trying to save money and I believe in myself lmao

In total I've probably compiled 7-8 hours of music in these playlists, so you've probably gotta be ready to dedicate some time and thought if you're gonna do it yourself. I think it's doable though.
