A David's Bridal Bride wonders where they got their bad rep

When I went to David's Bridal I had a lovely experience. They were helpful, kind, and they patiently put up with my desire to try the same dress on multiple times. My question is about why they have such a bad rep. So many people I have talked to in the past were horrified by their service. Was this just something of the past (all people I know who didn't like them married at least 2 years ago)

I know several of you ladies love your DB dresses and I love mine, so does anyone know why some people think so badly of the brand?

My managers solution was to bring both bridal parties on the same tour. I felt like this would make them feel not as special if I'm doubling them up on a tour - so I NEVER did this. Which means one bride and their family had to wait about 5-10 minutes. Which hopefully explains why she was ignoring you.

I had a great experience there too! I'm not quite plus sized but I'm on the larger side. I think it REALLY depends on the store though.

I've heard people have had bad luck with their alterations department, but that they have a huge selection and consultants are very helpful.

Personally, I didn't like them because they just didn't give me the time of day. The consultant was constantly walking away from me even though I made an appointment. I ended up getting my dress elsewhere.

But with all that said, every DB is different. Every consultant is different.

I am glad you had a good experience though!

@Future Mrs. L, thanks for the insight. I did know our appointment was only 1.5 hours, they told me this on the phone when I booked the appointment. I was a bit put off because I was told the name of the original consultant (lets say 'Jane'), and then she was paged 3 times while we were waiting. After about 20 minutes they gave us someone different. But when I was trying on dresses, 'Jane' was directly across from us with another client (she was wearing a name tag). It seemed like she stayed with this client extra time, eating into my appointment. I didn't mind the waiting so much, but I did mind when my 1.5 hour appointment was cut short by 20 minutes at the end (our consultant had another client) even though we were early and had to wait. We didn't get a tour of the store either.

It's too bad all the consultants aren't more like you! Smiley smile

The only problem I had was that they overbook their appointments. My consultant I believe was dealing with three brides at the time and quite frankly my mother had to get up and get dresses for me. My mother was beyond pissed and wanted to walk out, I however stood my ground and told her to relax. Once her other brides left though I received her undivided and I havent had a problem with them since. I have also purchased my dress from them.

Point is, no bride wants to feel like she isnt important when looking for the most important dress of her life.

After reading FutureMrsL's post though I see that is the norm.

Haven't read responses yet (but will). I think it depends on the store and the individuals you work with. I've had great service at DB but also some very mediocre experiences. I had been in the store quite a few times before I was even engaged and tried on the dress I purchased and they were very accommodating and helpful. I was impressed.

However, on the day I purchased my dress, the sales rep was less than stellar. If that had been my only experience with DB, I would have been unimpressed/underwhelmed and probably would have walked away without a dress.

Like any store or any experience (except perhaps Disney) you can get a bad impression based on one or two uninformed/new people and you can get a great impression based on some stellar employees. Organizations are really just people.

I went with my mom, niece, and a girlfriend. My consultant was great. She was nice, cheerful, and very helpful. When her second bride came in, she had no one, so she joined our little group. I haven't purchased my dress yet, but it was a great experience and I would go back.

Thank you for the insight, Future Mrs. L. Explains a lot. When my MOH was in town, we went to see dresses and the DB consultant was difficult to find when we needed her. My MOH, however, was trying on every single dress in the store and we were there THREE HOURS so in retrospect, our consultant probably had four appointments to handle at once.

To me it depends on who helps you. I've been there on two different occasions. Once with my sister for a bridal dress, the lady was helping idk how many people and was never around. When she was it was like she wasn't. I went again for another bridal dress and bridesmaid dresses, this lady was helping other people but we had no idea. I personally do not want to go to DB but I think I may have to for bridesmaid dresses. I have other options for my dress.

Due to everything I've heard in the past and just the fact they're a chain store was a huge turn off - I've never visited a DB in my life and probably never will. I'm just not a chain store type of bride and I wanted a designer dress.

Truthfully, I didn't even look at DB for my gown because their selection didn't have anything that I liked. I also didn't have my BMs look at DB because I wasn't a huge fan of their BM dress selection either. They could (and did) get dresses from a higher-end designer for the same price as some of the DB dresses.

I was a BM in my FMIL's wedding in September though and she bought her dress and ours from DB. My dress didn't have to be altered and I didn't have to pay for it so my experience was pretty seamless. All I can say is that when I went to try on the dress she picked out, the consultant disappeared after pulling the dress for me...and there was practically NO ONE in the store. Luckily it fit so I didn't need her to pull another size and my FMIL zipped it up for me.

Believe it or not, the dress I purchased at DB has never once been featured here as my "I found my dress" dress...and it probably won't until my "back and married" pics because it's discontinued! Smiley smile

For my experience, it depends where you go. The one in edmonton depends on your consultant, the one in Ottawa, I had a very good experience with a sweet girl, and that's where I bought my gown.

Well, I picked up my DB dress today...and they only confirmed the previous crap service I have experienced, multiple times, multiple weddings.

My dress was to be ready on Thu...and I arrived on Sat. (drove 2.5 hours) When I first got there, I got an, "Are YOU the bride?" I am not imagining this...the looks from others in the store confirmed such. Weird shit. Just because I am "older?"

After a long wait, they finally located me in the system and had my dress as being in alterations. The minor repairs they were to make for it, were supposed to be done by Thu. So we ended up going to eat lunch and coming back.

P.S. The alterations ladies were awesome...very attentive and took whatever amount of time needed, to try on my dress and mark the spots needing attention. They also hinted to me that they would work with me on my budget for bustle and etc...they were embarrassed by the incidents and how I was treated.
