a change of photographers..

So I got a photographer and thought she was good but me and my fiance were not very impressed.. I had to go through and edit our photos after our engagements.. I had a red dot on my chin in almost all of them. Lol so I feel like she didn't really edit at all. She also took a month to get them to us when she said 3 weeks.
I do like the pictures, though the posing is basic. I found someone else's wedding photos she did and was not impressed... fast forward to my best friends wedding, her photographer was amazing and i love how all the pics came out. I talked to her and she is also in my budget. I already gave the other girl a down payment, however I never signed a contract. Do you think I could ask her to use the down payment towards bridals instead of my wedding?

It’s worth asking! We had the same issue and for us, photography was the area we were willing to spend the most on since after the day is over the pics are all that’s left and we want to love them. We switched photographers after our engagement pictures with our first photographer. The posing was basic, no editing was done, etc. fast forward to now...we just got our pics back from our second shoot with a new photographer and are in love with the new pictures I couldn’t be happier with our choice. Make sure you love your photographer. And if you didn’t sign a contract I would definitely ask what she can do for you!

You'll never know until you ask.

Also in the 2nd photographer boat. We got a few good ones out of our first epics but it wasn't anything special and it took 12 weeks to get them back. 2nd photographer had them to me in less than 12 hours fully edited and I cried as I went through them. Unfortunately I had signed a contract with the first one so I lost my deposit but I still asked despite having a contract. Worst they can say is no but IMO it's worth losing a deposit to get a photographer you love.

I would try asking, it certainly doesnt hurt. The worst she will say is no. That will defineyly suck. Atleast you didnt sign a contract.

Did you pay for the pictures to be retouched? Did you discuss retouching? If that wasn't part of it then it wouldn't have been done. Retouching is quite time consuming so it's either built into the cost or costs extra. When I did wedding photography it was never assumed to go either way. The brides were always given a choice. We usually showed them a few pictures unedited first to see if there was anything they specifically wanted retouched.

Also you paid a down payment without signing a contract? That seems odd.

She said it took 3 weeks for editing and stuff but the pictures appear as nothing was done to them.. If I was a photographer I would take out the obvious blemish.
    Yeah I didn't sign a contract, I don't know.

Editing photos usually does not include retouching for blemishes and facial features. Usually when a photographer refers to editing, it involves lighting and coloring - and a good photographer won't need to do much editing and it won't look like it's been heavily edited.

If you never signed a contract or anything, then I'd say go for it! Hopefully she won't say no.

And for lurkers, this is why it's super important to do plenty of research about a photographer's work and love their style.

Yes, I'm sure you could use it towards any photo shoot she offers! Boudoir, christmas cards, family shoot, etc. since you never signed a contract.

I would definitely ask. Let her know why you're asking that though. you have every right to change plans since this is your day. That's kind of my worry right now. We haven't done engagement pictures yet, so are waiting to see how those turn out before signing, paying, giving anything.
