9/26/20 Indoor wedding

Jimmy, on July 5, 2020 at 1:05 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
Hey everyone, I hope you are all staying safe out there! We originally had a 4/4/20 wedding that we postponed 6 months until 9/26/20. We are getting married in an indoor venue (at a hotel). We have 2 rooms. A ceremony room that holds 150 and a reception room that holds 200 people. We have around 100 people coming. Do you think we are in the clear? Is there anything we should change?

I'm thinking about doing our wedding pictures off site so we don't have to wear masks. I'm not thrilled about everyone wearing masks the entire time but I don't see mandatory masks going away anytime soon. We have a family member with COPD so she wouldn't do well if she got COVID. We want to have a great time and keep our families safe.
Thanks for your responses!

That ideally sounds fine? But then I would talk with your venue to see if they have any limits at this point and when you do a seating chart that would also help you see the spacing because it’ll be best to seat by households or limit the amount of ppl per table

Besides the masks, some things to discuss with the venue are arranging the ceremony and reception space to allow for social distancing, dancing and if that will be allowed (I've heard some places are restricting this or not allowing it at all), and food service. For the food it's mainly if you're having buffet style; you want to make sure they will have servers giving out the food rather than letting guests serve themselves. But if you're going with plated you don't have to worry about that.

This unfortunately depends on where you live.

In NJ, this would not be allowed. While we can have indoor gatherings of 100, that is only if the room is capable of holding 400 people. (100 people, or 25% max capacity.)

Some places are allowing more, but my concern is that poorly ventilated areas have been known to cause outbreaks. Since you have a high-risk family member, I'd either live-stream her in, or postpone.

I think you have to decide what works best for you. Personally, I wouldn't want to be in a room with that many people right now and I would postpone, or decline (if I was a guest). You also have to consider your wedding dreams: do you want to be able to hug people in thanks on your wedding day? Do you want to be able to dance with your friends/family? I don't think either of these things can happen right now due to covid.....masks or not. If these things don't matter to you then as long as you follow the guidelines then do what's best for you. Just be understanding of those who will choose not to attend.

Thank you for your feedback. We are considering 4/3/21 which is a pretty cool date. No guarantee things will be different by then but we are hopeful.

Hi Jimmy! Next April definitely buys you a lot of time! Otherwise it all depends on your local restrictions and what your venue’s policies are! Have you been in touch with them about your plans?

Another thing you could think about is having your ceremony & reception in the same room so that your guests have one place to sit and minimize moving around! I’d also check with your venue about the room’s capacity with tables spaced 6 feet apart.
