8 Months Too Little Time?!

Tara, on December 8, 2019 at 11:17 AM Posted in Planning 1 14
My fiancé and I are deciding on a wedding date! We live in the Pacific Northwest & would love for it to be during summer. Is it possible to plan this wedding in 8 months?! The following summer seems so far away!

I think it’s possible if you’re organized and begin quickly. We were able to plan my sister’s wedding for this past October when she decided to push it up in August. Just be ready for some venues/vendors to be booked. I would recommend making a list of the things most important to you for the wedding (venue, photographer, catering, florals, etc) to make those your first priority for booking (though remember that you don’t actually have a date until you have a venue, so that would probably be my first stop). Best of luck!

I agree with Nicole. Definitely possible if you book all vendors in the next month or two and are okay with many of your top choices already being booked. But if you’re flexible, organized, and use checklists like the one from WeddingWire to stay on track it is definitely doable!

It is definitely possible. We had most of our stuff picked out within a month of being engaged. I would look for a venue immediately. Once you have a venue, I would find the rest of your vendors. I would also be flexible on your date as well. Generally 8 months is when you want to get your wedding dress so I would also start shopping for that. You can get bridesmaids dresses from David's Bridal or Azazie really quickly. Tuxes or suits you can very easily get within the time frame you have. For my brother's wedding, we booked hair and makeup like 3 weeks ahead of time because the bride forgot to. I would also highly recommend Etsy for purchasing things. We got a ton of stuff from them and most of the stuff came rather quickly.

I did 10 months and it has been just fine! You just need to work fast to secure the venue, vendors and get your dress and engagement photos done/stds sent. Once you have that, it seems really doable. You may find that a venue or vendor you want is already booked so keep that in mind.

I planned a wedding in 8 months. We had decided March of this year to move our wedding to December 14, 2019. By mid April 2019, I had a lot of my big vendors already booked for the wedding. We planned a intimate dinner reception since we have a guest count of 50 for the wedding. Start reaching out to vendors to see if they are available and put the deposits to hold them. Its very do able just stay on top of what you want for the day and plan it out. I was the wedding planner and decorator during these past few months. The wedding is in 6 days and I'm beyond ready for it to get her! I'm glad we decided to move the date up because I don't think I could of lasted doing an 2 year engagement/wedding planning. (so many opinions and drama, insert eye roll, but we survived!)

Absolutely possible. I planned a wedding for 55 people in 10 weeks and it was in Florida and we live in Maryland. The key is to get your venue ASAP and from there organization is key.

We booked ours with a little under 7 months. We ended up doing a destination wedding and did it on a weekday. Saves money and more likely to be open. Also, you have a better grab at the vendors too!! Good luck

Absolutely. We got engaged and married just shy of 8 months apart. We were flexible with dates and hopefully you are too. We ended up finding a venue within a month and spread by word of mouth the date so people could plan. Get the venue/date and everything else will fall into place.

I think it's doable! Just stay on top of things and you should be fine. Definitely get the major vendors taken care of now, like venue, catering, and photography Smiley smile

We got engaged on NYE, and married by August. You can do it!

You just have to be super organized, make decisions quickly, and be a little flexible on the date.

We didn't want a long planning period - it ate up so much of our life, and we just wanted to be married!

It is definitely possible but you need to move quickly, especially with getting a dress!

We're currently in the middle of planning our wedding with only an eight (or nine) month engagement. It's really not too bad. Advice is to be super organized and start looking at major vendors soon after you get engaged - venue, photographer, cake, food, etc. Also, as someone else has said you'll need to find a dress more quickly. And if you're creative, it may be helpful do DIY decor and stuff like that.
