$760 for coffee and tea for 170 people????

XXXBride, on May 21, 2019 at 11:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 16
Hi everyone - I'm about a month out from my wedding and the stress is really coming down on me. Issues with my caterer and her pricing and price changing is driving me crazy, but for now I just need to know what you all think of this -

She is quoting coffee and tea service with dairy free milks and creamers and sweeteners at $760. this is NOT including rentals we need such as the coffee makers, coffee mugs, containers for milks etc. this is literally just the coffee milk sweeteners and the service to make the coffee I guess...

what do you guys think and any tips on what I should do? This seems insane to me. that is over $4 per person for coffee/tea not even including their cup/milk/sugar.

That seems totally insane! Honestly I would just skip coffee and tea altogether if that were the case...

That seems pretty outrageous to me. There’s no reason it should be even over a couple hundred dollars. My mom had this at her wedding and just used Starbucks coffee pods and whoever actually wanted the coffee it was made that way their wasn’t that much waste. I will be super honest with you though, not many people wanted it even though it was a cute set up and everything. I hope you can work something out with your caterer and definitely save your money! Good luck!

Wow. Outrageously overpriced. What does your contract say about this? If it's really vague, then your caterer has the wiggle room to gouge you on prices like this. But hopefully your contract is more detailed than that.

If there's no way to avoid this cost, I would just decline the coffee service. A few guests might be disappointed, but they'll get over it. That is a ridiculous amount of money for coffee. You could send someone on a Starbucks run for everyone and spend less.

We paid $5 pp for coffee service not including a $100 coffee station set up fee. We only did it for about 1/3 of the guests though because we knew a lot of people wouldn’t drink it.

I had forgotten to tell my caterer about coffee when we origionally did the quote, so last week when I made the second payment I told her about it. She added it to my list of services and requirements but said the price would be the same! So yea $800 just for that seems INSANE.

My caterer includes tea, water, and lemonade. I have a Keurig and will set up a little coffee area with the Keurig and disposable coffee cups. I will buy sugar, creamer, and coffee (you could buy tea too) in bulk from Sam's or Costco. I'd never pay that much for coffee and tea.

Ugh, so glad you all agree this is insane. I'm not sure what to do from here but thanks for the replies.

We similarly didn’t pay for coffee service for everyone. I think the line items on our invoice charged coffee for 75 (50%) and tea for 50 (25%) or so. So, my move would be to try to negotiate portions, maybe supply for half your guests instead of all, as all are unlikely to drink coffee.

I agree with the idea that that price is crazy and you should try to cut the people served number. I would never order coffee or tea at a wedding and have only ever seen like 2-3 people do it. If not possible, buying 2 Keurigs and accompanying k-cups and creamers would definitely be cheaper than $700

Our caterer quoted maybe a couple hundred and noted it would be for about half the guest list because not everyone drinks it. Make sure she isn't quoting for your entire guest list.

This is the same that our caterer suggested - to not do one for each person since not everyone will partake in it.

Mine was $100 for unlimited coffee all night and $100 for hot cocoa for 125 people. This is nuts.

That is crazy! If you really want to do coffee maybe you could set up a keurig coffee maker and get a bunch of pods for coffee and tea. Just a thought. Good luck!
