72'' round tables with 10 guests per table, will there be room for 13'' inch chargers?

JessicaMP, on May 2, 2022 at 1:00 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

Our coordinator has said there will not be room to use chargers if we want to put 10 people at a 72'' round but every planning tool I look at online indicates there is room? Has anyone used 13'' chargers and placed 10 place settings on 72'' rounds? We will also have two tables that will have several kids and on those tables we will have 11 place settings. Our venue is out of town or I would just physically go and see what this looks like. If anyone did this and can post a picture, I would be so appreciative!

Wow, that is such a specific question - if you don't find someone on here to help, I would suggest just creating a 72" circle on your floor with a string, electrical cord, etc. Then just buy ten 13" chargers at Dollar Tree - you'll be able to return them. And you can use household items (plates, glasses, silverware, vases, candles, etc.) to make sure all your other table settings will fit.

From what I found online it looks like 8 is a good amount to sit at the table and be comfortable. But with 10 at a table with the chargers, it would work but it might be a little tight but manageable.

Go with 8 people per table to have plenty of elbow room. 10 will be cramped.

Wedding coordinators, etc. will tell you that 10 people can sit at 72” round tables, but the reality is its extremely cramped for your guests, and it looks crowded too. I would only seat 8 at 72” rounds.

For reference, here is a photo of 10 13” chargers at a 72” round table. It is so cramped that silverware must be shoved under the chargers to fit on the table. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like my plate an inch from the person’s next to me (or being forced to rub shoulders or legs with them…super uncomfortable).

(And there’s no way you are going to fit 11!)

With persons told to social distance for 2.5 years, I think your guests may not be used to sitting and eating so close to others. Persons may even find this uncomfortable, and leave the reception early. If you had to choose, I would rather spend the charger money on additional tables/centerpieces to seat 8 per table instead. If you can afford both, chargers on a non-cramped table will make your tablescapes look even more appealing.

I sat 6-8 people at 60" table during Delta wave, and everyone was appreciative of the space. Even if you increase the diameter by 12", the area per person is not equivalent to 6" inches to each side (imagine geometry triangles).

Hi Cathy. I compared my seating chart with my real photos, and looks like a couple people moved. haha. We actualy had more tables of 7 as some spouses and plus 1s could not come.

Pic #1: Table of 7, low view- good elbow room

Pic #3: Table of 8 (4 couples)-- still comfortable and happy. They were also closest to the right side bar.

First of all, thank you so much for responding!! What a gorgeous wedding!!! And how fun are these pictures? This was very helpful!! My caterer thinks that our tables might be slightly smaller than 60” so we will re-evaluate when time gets closer! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond & for posting the pics!

That picture with the blue and white tablecloth is of a standard 60" round table (seats 8-10) at a max of 10.

A 72" round table (seats 10-12) would be much further apart for 10 seated guests. 10 guests is plenty of room for chargers and standard dinnerware and decor.

Do you think 6 at a 72inch would look too empty? I have guests that canceled and now i am left with 6 per table

These are 60 inch rounds. I saw your other question, can you consolidate guests into 8? You may be able to reduce costs on additional centerpieces even. Good luck.

We don't necessarily split all the guests evenly - we'll still do 10 per table and then there would be one or two odd ones. That said, there's no rules or anything like that! You know your guests and should group them to comfort and positive socialization. Smiley smile

6 at a table isn't all that strange or cramped looking! Very relaxed. Especially if you're doing chargers, napkins, maybe additional silverware and goblets, etc. and a medium centerpiece.

If you ever want to get a (free) idea of your layout, try www.allseated.com. or socialtables.com. You can enter your room dimensions, make a rough 3d model, and even set your seating chart! There's others that are better, but cost money (i.e. bemerri, cvent, oro, etc.)

Pictured in a 72" round eith 6 seats, but no table setting, sorry!
