$7,000 Budget.. Help!

Nancy, on January 25, 2018 at 11:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hi fellow future brides!
i live in Miami and am getting married in November. I am having some trouble budgeting for everything I want and have had to put a DJ on hold because unfortunately they are very expensive! Does anyone have any tricks or tips or know a DJ who won’t let me go too over budget?

Here is an idea of what I have spent (or definitely plan on spending on) My venue was $2k (not too bad) and my caterer was $800 for ~70 guests. We are purchasing our own liquor which I assume would be another $2k (we have some heavy drinkers).

Anything is welcome!

Thank you in advance,
Nancy

So, you have a little over $2,000 left for tips, flowers, photographer, cake, decor, etc. What about your dress and groom's attire and gifts for the wedding party? I doubt a DJ is in your budget. You may have to change your plans to an ipod, etc.

What are the other things you want and are they budgeted for? What were you looking to spend for a DJ?

Why not just do beer and wine that'll eliminate some of the cost for alcohol. What about your costs for photography or officiant.

    Hi,
my Aunt is a florist and she is taking care of that, most of our friends are professional photographers, my fiancé’s mom is getting his suit, my parents are getting my dress, and I only have 1 bridesmaid (sister) who I am letting her choose her own dress. Gifts are definitely in the budget but we don’t plan on spending more than $100 per person. Tips for servers and bartender included as well. I agree about the iPod!

Unfortunately, this is a non negotiable for us. My officiant is a very close family friend. She’s known my since I was 5 years old and I consider her my second mom Smiley smile

If you can’t make any adjustments to what you am negotiate on, you’ll either need to increase your budget or cut your guest list

I would say write down the cost for everything and see how much you have left over for a dj then pick someone in that range or try to save more money to afford one. Generally you place a deposit now, maybe by November it will be possible. I have heard the IPod idea go over well when the crowd isn't heavy on dancing music or the wedding doesn't need much MC'ing like introducing people, entertaining the crowd, making announcements, or not doing the music for the ceremony. You will just want someone hopefully not you or a guest to control the music. Survey your crowd, use the vendor tab and maybe thumbtack to search for more quotes. Someone may be able to work with your budget. Say you have the dj for 4 hours instead of 5 or however else they control their cost.

I would definitely prioritize a DJ over some other items (like pp said, cut back on your booze offerings), or find a way to save more money for one. Good music makes or breaks a party, even with good food and booze.
