7 weeks pregnant

FutureMrsClark, on May 23, 2011 at 1:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or stories to tell me about being pregnant in your 1st trimister. This is my first baby and I am really excited and really sick, but very thankful.

Congratulations!!! My first trimester was awful!! I slept all the time, stayed sick, couldn't eat, lost about 5-7 lbs., and had no energy whatsoever.

Get use to the sickness it will be there but it will be all good in the long run. The first trimester is easy and will go by fast. Enjoy while you can because the nights were you sleep though you might don't have those anymore lol.

    CONGRATS

Oh and maybe TMI but you might get constipated a lot. So eat things high in fiber. Have you been for your first check up yet? I remember you are from Nashville. My mom worked at Tennessee Women's Care downtown near Baptist and those drs are great! and so are the nurses!

I have been for my first ultrasound, but I don't have my first check up until June 15th. My doctor has called in a prescribtion for nausea medicine I think Phenegren or something like that. I haven't been able to keep any food down.

You sound like me during my first trimester! It was AWFUL for me. But I actually have some tips - before you get out of bed in the morning, have your man bring you some apple slices, they have something in them ( i actually forget what it is called) that will settle your stomach. And Saltines. I had apples and saltines for breakfast for months and it was the only way I didn't throw up all the time. It's really helpful. Your second trimester will be wonderful, it gives you a couple months of not feeling too sick anymore and more energy to do things. The third trimester is a lot like the 1st though - except it isn't nausea so much as acid reflux and indigestion. My baby is almost 4 months old now.. so don't worry you'll get through it Smiley smile

I will definitely try the apple slices in the morning. Last week any kind of food sounded good to me, but know I don't want anything to eat.

Just a warning - sometimes the morning sickness (which who knows why they call it that as it comes at any darn time lol) can last longer than the 1st trimester... Mine did. But the tiredness and all that is normal as well.

I found that plain saltine crackers and some Sprite helped settle my stomach when I had "morning" sickness.

Be prepared for cravings as well! I have 2 kids and craved different things with each kid. My son - I craved pretty normal stuff like Hot Wings and Chinese Food, Ice Cream... BUT my daughter... I craved normal stuff too, but then there was the scrambled eggs with pickles and Doritos chips mixed together. Also had a thing for chocolate ice cream and Fritos (would use the Fritos to drip and scoop in the ice cream. So yeah, some cravings can get a little out there. Once when my sister was pregnant, I caught her standing in the middle of the kitchen with a fried chicken drumstick and she was dipping into the p-nut butter jar!! lol.

Oh and be prepared that as your baby grows - your ability to hold your pee is not going to be as strong since the baby can sometimes lay on your bladder or kick it so do those kegel (spelling ?) exercises and be prepared for frequent trips to the bathroom.

Also, as you get bigger, you may have a problem getting comfy enough to sleep at night. You can buy those things they sell for this or you can do what I did and I just used a regular pillow.

Be prepared for a change in your sex drive. Some women actually lose theirs or you could be like me and actually have a higher than normal sex drive.

I suggest buying What To Expect when you are expecting. It's a pretty good book.

Be prepared for kicks not only in the bladder but also in your ribs. lol. You will love to feel your baby kick and move, but in the ribs - it hurts!

Ummm yeah, if you have any questions, send me a PM and I will answer them!

I am 7 weeks as well!!! When is your baby due!!?? Mine is January 5th well maybe, I get my first ultrasound on this Friday Smiley smile I agree with Kristina, must buy What to Expect book, very helpful. I been very sleepy, hungry all of time, crabby, sick, lack of sex drive (I feel bad for my husband), and I get cramps. I heard that first three months of pregnancy is very hard and very emotional, no one want to be around me lol. Congrats on pregnancy Smiley smile This is my first child as well Smiley smile

Every pregnancy if different, but just as a heads up be prepared for morning sickness! I was lucky and didn't have hardly any but I had some.. and of course it was always on the days I worked never when I was at home and off haha. Keep in mind you are eating for two, but definitely don't go overboard with eating, you may gain more than necessary and it will be harder to lose the weight later. Make healthy eating choices, and totally cut out caffiene if you can, if not limit the caffiene to one drink a week, and drink LOTS of water!

Congratulations!!! Chelsea is right...every pregnancy is different. With my fist (12 years ago ) I wasn't that sick but with this one (I'm 9 1/2 weeks) I'm just miserable. Good luck.

Oh and if this is your first pregnancy and you get cramping... Don't panic, it's most likely nothing. During my first pregnancy during my first trimester, I would get bad cramping and I thought I was going to miscarry because it hurt. I went to the ER and everything over it... Turns out it was normal. No need to worry unless there is blood. Didn't happen with my 2nd pregnancy so not sure if it's just something that happens during 1st pregnancy or if its because "every pregnancy is different"

My first trimester was crazy, I also had morning sickness. I don't know how your pregnancy is going, but be prepared if taking prenatals not to take them in the morning, they can actually make you feel even more sick. Take them at night before bed. I drank a lot of ginger ale and had crackers too.

After that I made sure to drink lots of milk!

I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!!
