6 or 8 to a Six foot table??

Josie, on June 26, 2018 at 11:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
We are using six foot tables. I am debating whether to go

three on each side & one on each end (8 people)

three on on each side, nobody on ends (6 people)

or two on each side and one on each end (6 people)

I want to optimize table space but I also don’t want them to be uncomfortably crowded!!! People shouldn’t be spending too much time sitting right?? What do you guys thinks?? I need to get my final seating chart done, it’s been changed so many times now!!

We are putting 8 people at 8 foot tables so for a 6 foot I'd probably stick to 6 people just so they have enough room to eat and be comfortable. Dinner still lasts about an hour so you want people to not be too crowded while they're trying to enjoy their dinner.

Six to a table with 3 on each side. Sitting at the end is a pain because of the legs on a typical rectangular table.

I talked to various vendors (florist, wedding planner, venue coordinator) and they all said rule of thumb is two feet of space per person, otherwise people knock elbows. So for a 6' table that's three on each side. You can add people on each end if you want, but as Going to the chapel said, be mindful of the legs on the end of each table.

The two feet thing makes sense. What do you think about people who are a little bigger? Lol. We have a few men in our families who are big guys. Do you think we should still stick them with two more people on their side??

Hi, Josie! I would agree with the above comments: stick with 6 to a table. Smiley cake

Have you played around with WeddingWire's Seating Chart Tool? It might be helpful since you're on a time crunch! Smiley winking

Three on each side would be best. I feel the two on the ends would be out of place and feel far away from everyone at the table.

Our venue has 6' tables and this is our intention. It looks really sharp!
Plus, we have a 6' folding table at home so we can see a full, set table months in advance.

You're getting in the weeds here! Smiley laugh I think it's fine to just do six people at each table, regardless of size. They'll figure it out! If its a problem they can shift a little to a corner if you don't have people at the ends.

My venue has 8-foot tables and I'm doing 8 people (4 a side) at each, so I would recommend 6 for yours. I ran into a few situations where I have a group of 9 people that I would like to seat together, but in all the situations one was a small child (will be 3 or under), so I will just have a seat/booster seat/high chair at the end on those few tables.
