6-10 signature drinks?

Kay, on April 11, 2022 at 3:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 9
We’re having a 200 person wedding consisting of mostly heavy drinkers. Would it be cheaper to do beer, wine, and maybe 6 to 10 signature drinks (3 whiskey drinks, 3 vodka drinks, 2 gin drinks, 2 rum drinks - or something like that)? It feels like a headache to think of that many signature drinks, but could it be cheaper than a full open bar?

I think if you are going to be doing that many signature drinks it's also a lot of other alcohol and drink components to create. so usually when people do signature drinks they just do like 2-3

you can also just stick to only beer and wine and no signature drinks and honestly people would be ok with that if you want to be more economical

Your best bet is probably to talk to your vendor. 6-10 sounds like a lot of signature drinks. I've usually only seen 2-3 at events (weddings or otherwise). If you're going to try to have drinks that cover every type of liquor then you might be better off just going for a full bar and letting people order whatever they want.

I agree with both of the above comments. 6-10 signature drinks is a lot! Melle brings up a good point about considering the rest of the components that would go into those drinks, you'd probably be pretty close to a full bar in that scenario. I would either limit it to beer, wine, and 1-2 signature drinks, or do a full bar.

If you're doing that many signature drinks, they're going to be purchasing a ton of alcohol anyway, at that point it's very close to a full bar set up, so either go with beer/wine and maybe 1-2 signature drinks OR a full bar.

Talk to your bartender (or caterer if they provide bartending). Typically it’s cheaper to have a full open bar and limit the alcohol choices to what your guests drink than to have signature drinks that no one touches. If you are unsure what they like, talk to your VIP guests and find out what they like and what they don’t since they will be drinking what you serve, and it will be different from what internet strangers prefer.

I would also note that a lot of people order simple mixed drinks, like gin & tonic, or jack & coke. Which are really easy for bartenders to make, and require pretty much zero prep. Signature drinks, unless you pick reaaaally simple ones, are likely going to be far more complex. And would at least require a ton of work for the bartenders, if not inflated prices due to the increased ingredients. If you wanted to only offer a brown liquor and a clear liquor signature drink, then you might be better off. But getting overly complex will certainly not decrease your costs. Definitely talk to your caterer - they will be able to provide guidance.

I'd stick with 2 signature drinks. 1 to represent you, one for the groom
