55 decibel sound rule

Katelan, on June 7, 2016 at 9:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

So my fiance and I are looking for a venue that fits into our budget but allows for music to dance, because we both love dancing! We found the perfect little house, Tucker House in Raleigh NC but they say they have a 55 decibel noise rule. I feel that this is very strict. Has anyone had experience here or with this rule? Is it loud enough to dance to? If you went over were they strict? HELP.

Is it an indoor venue or outdoor? If it is indoor, is that the volume that is permitted to be heard from outside the venue?

City/town noise ordinances are pretty common. So it may not actually be the requirement of the venue, but the local law.

That seems extremely low if this is the indoor levels. Preaty much couldn't invite the one loud talking relative everyone has in their life. http://www.industrialnoisecontrol.com/comparative-noise-examples.htm EDT: was posting same time as your response. 55 wouldn't be too bad

Where is your venue. Some places have a noise restrictions for everything. I think 55 decided is okay. You should be able to dance to it.

Check your state for sound permits, and ask your venue if a sound permit would help. Normally, having one permits an increase of at least 5 or 10 decibels. In my city, the noise restriction is 68 decibels but with a noise permit, we were allowed up to 75 decibels. It costs 30 bucks.

Some venues have noise rules. So that's normal. Some places go as far as to have little monitors and if the noise goes above the level it cuts the power and it takes sometimes as long as 10 minutes to restart. However 55 decibels is just below conversational speech. So that's really low. Especially outside since there are no walls or ceilings for the sound to bounce off of. Most of the sound will be absorbed by your guests bodies or just float away into space making it seem even quieter than it already is 75 decibels is the level of a vacuum cleaner.
