$5000 Destination wedding and reception??? Can it be done?!?

Mrs. DAB, on August 13, 2013 at 11:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Ladies,

We now have a new date of April 26, 2014. I am still sticking to my $5000 budget. It looks like we're going to have somewhere between 50-75 guests. I don't need anything super fancy but I would like my guests to feel a little luxury ;-) I don't like the big mega resorts (so no Sandals or Beaches) and there will be children attending so it can't be an adults only resort. I also would like the resort to be an all-inclusive somewhere in the Caribbean but not Mexico. I want a beach ceremony but the reception can be informal i. e. Beach bbq, buffett. The two so far that I've found that kinda fit this description are The Grand Pineapple in Jamaica and the Divi in Aruba.

So two questions, is this a realistic budget? Has anyone been married at either of these two resorts? If it really cannot be done for this price, I'll change my plans. I would really appreciate if some ladies wouldn't mind sharing what they spent on their destination wedding. Thanks!

Not sure if it's realistic. Does that number include your own airfare or this amount STRICTLY for the reception. If it's just for the reception, if you had 75 people attend, then it's $66 a person. I would suggest looking at a travel agent who may be able to assist you with these details.

    Ehhhh I'm not sure...

But my SIL had a cruise wedding (7 days) with around 16 guests for $7000.

So with your number of guests, I'm not so sure.

I'm not including airfare in that price. But all wedding costs including photographer, entertainment (band or dj), food and hopefully some type of rehearsal dinner or something.

    Just wedding costs?

Are you including your accomodations in that price?

I know I went to Sandals for a wedding (as MOH) for 4 days/3 nights - it cost me $1300 just for accomodations & airfare...

The Bride/Groom paid significantly more because they stayed at the "big" resort...and their wedding was 4 people (no RH dinner or flowers or videographer or meal) and they paid over $5000 plus the pictures were no included in the "photography package."

Just start calling around and see what you can find...

$8,000 may be doable. $5,000 will be hard for that many guest.

Ok, thanks for the input. Maybe the list will have to be cut down.

Ok, last time this thing is going to change, I'm going back to my original idea. I really didn't want to have to deal with passports and I was really excited about the USVI, but didn't want my West Coast guests to have to deal with the LOOOONNGGGG flight. But we moved the date to Memorial Day weekend, so all the kids will be out of school, and folk can come hang out. Phew...glad that's over with!!! Plus, no other wedding coordinators/planners were emailing me back that I contacted in the Bahamas and elsewhere. At least Janelle (Island Bliss Weddings) is trying to help me out with my small budget. I think other planners didn't even want to try!!

My wedding and reception at the Grand Occidental Xcaret in Mexico cost me less than 1,000 and I had 27 guests. You have a pretty large wedding party so I don't think $500 is possible but you could do it for much less than if you were married in the US. I would consider cutting the guest list if you want to keep it at that price.

That was the cost just for my ceremony and reception not including photography etc. If you want photography, music, etc you are going to need to raise your budget by a decent amount. They will give you a certain amount of free stuff for booking rooms but your not going to get everything for free.
