Hi All! So I'm newly engaged and planning to get married in June 2014. Me and my fiance are still in college but are planning a wedding because we want to get married while still in Baltimore, Maryland. Once we graduate he will be commissioned as an officer and we will be stationed some place which we don't yet. We are working with a small budget so any help would be much appreciated. We just started planning and have no clue what to do. We started looking at venues but most of them are really high and same goes for catering. When do you start doing stuff and am I behind. Please Help!!!!! This already proving to be a bit stressful.

Everyone has been a big help! I've heard the idea for sams club flowers a few times so I may try that and try to do my own bouquets and centerpieces. Also I think I may have found a restaurant willing to do both ceremony and reception except its in the same room so I may need to look into a different venue for ceremony. Also how do you guys feel about alcoholic drinks at wedding. Yay or nay?

My budget was the same I am a bit over but not bad. I am having 50 guests and like an earlier post said research at first it's going to see impossible but you WILL find vendors in your price range. Good luck. Look for lots of coupons for VP, hobby lobby and do a lot of DYI as much as possible. I DIY'ed all my invitations, programs, signage, place cards, table numbers etc.

Cut out the things you don't need. Save the Dates are nice, but unnecessary. Favors are not necessary either, and plenty of them get left behind. Programs are nice, but also, tend to get behind. I checked, for the first time, Sam's Club prices on flowers because so many of the brides rave about their prices. They're probably the best retail prices I've seen, and even their pre-made bridal packages (bouquets, bouts, corsages) are very, very reasonable. If you want fresh flowers, I don't think you can do any better than Sam's Club. Stick with one flower, something simple like roses, put them in a vase, and you cannot mess it up. Sangria punch or wine is nice (but if you go the public park route, you'll have to check the legalities). IPOD the music. Friday evening/Sunday afternoon option will save you money if you use a banquet hall. Many DIY projects are pretty easy if you find a youtube instructional. With $5,000, 75 guests, some DIYs, and internet research, you can do it.

This is the exact budget we started with, so I know it seems overwhelming when you first start. We went to a bridal show and they looked at me like I had 5 eyes when I tried to explain our vision within our budget. We knew we wanted a venue that was more rustic, and a place you could bring your own caterer and alcohol into (to help save on cost). A couple of city owned venue spaces seemed like the perfect fit, but you would've had to use from their list of approved caterers. I felt like we would never find a place that met that criteria with a much smaller budget. However, after many google searches and forums,we ended up getting a suggestion from a coworker of a place that didn't even pop up on any of the vendor lists or google searches. It was a hidden gem. $600 for 4 hour reception , 2 hours of setup and 1 hour of tear down, and can purchase extra hours for $100/hour and we could rent white tables and chairs for $200. PLUS you can bring in your own alcohol and caterer!

Hi! We're also planning a June wedding with a $5000 budget. Because we're keeping to a small guest list it has allowed us to direct more funds to our reception. We're having our reception on a casino boat, which surprisingly saved us money as well. We aren't renting the entire boat out so they're only charging us the regular rate with a 10% discount because our guest list is only 30 or so people. Just like Kris, we decided to skip the fancy wedding and get married on the beach. We're going to spend a few days at the beach and a few days in Vegas. Budget is $5000 but I think that when all is said and done, we'll be under budget.
