4 hours for ceremony & reception?

Jjb041612, on March 18, 2015 at 6:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Is this common? 2 hour set up, 1 hour break down & 4 hours for ceremony, pics & reception. What is your venue giving you? We can of course add hours for $500/hour.

I think 4 hour reception (not including ceremony) is a good amount of time. Gives about an hour and a half to get settled/dinner. 30 minutes for toasts/special dances. 2 hours to party Smiley smile

How long will your ceremony be? We are having a 20-30 minute ceremony followed by a 4-hour reception. No cocktail hour as it's all in the same venue and early in the daytime. I guess if you have a brief ceremony, the four hours should work out okay.

I'd say w/o a cocktail hour and w/ a DOC its possible. 2 hours to set up w/ only 1 or two ppl can be hard. you'd def need a DOC or risk starting late or cutting into picture time (if you have a DOC already, I'd talk to her/him about it). I also think you'd need to do a first look. how many guest? that has a lot to do what how long it takes everyone to get settled and in their seats for the entrance and if the $500 would be worth another hour.

It really depends. I think it can all happen in 4 hours if you've got a good timeline and are able to stick to it. Our reception cocktail hour started at 4, but most people didn't get there until 430 or so. Dinner was served at 530 and the dance floor was still packed at midnight. It just depends on the crowd. We were in no hurry to get out of there, so I had no reason to really push things along or stick to a super strict timeline. We kind of just went with the flow. Lots of people have 4-5 hour receptions with no problems. I think it also depends what time your ceremony is.

My ceremony and reception will be 5 hours. My ceremony will be less than 20 minutes hopefully. Why do you need 2 hours for set up?

Ceremony and reception is about 4.5 hours. aaaaand our ceremony is about an 45 minutes/1hour... but it's also a daytime reception, so it's normal for it to be shorter.

Dont necc need 2 hour set up thats just what the venue uses. Its 4 hours total for ceremony, pics & reception. Was just curious if this was typical or other venues offer more time. My sisters place have her the place all day. We arent allowed to be on property to get ready until noon.

Our ceremony and reception are 10 hours total! But that's the norm in Canada. I've never been to a wedding that wasn't an all day/all night thing. After 4 hours the party is just getting started!
