4 hour timeline help

Janean, on March 3, 2013 at 12:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Just as I make the mistake of thinking everything is coming together my dj asked me what my timeline looks like... uhhh... I do not know? Lol I just kinda thought it all came together. So for all you brides that had or have a 4 hour reception can you please help me figure out a timeline? Thank you so much Smiley laugh

Ours is a 7.5 hour event, from ceremony start to reception end (all in the same venue) but most timelines are [roughly] the same...

What are your start and end times??

Also, are your ceremony and reception at the same location??

Well, assuming you're doing all of the normal events, I would say something along the lines of:

12:30 - Wedding Photos after ceremony

    1:00 - Reception Start/Grand Entrance

1:15/1:30 - Lunch (Depending on number of guests and whether you're having buffet or full service)

2:15/2:30 - Cake Cutting, First Dance, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance

    3:00 - Dancing

4:00 - Break in Dancing for Bouquet & Garter Tosses and/or Cash Dance

    5:00 - Grand Exit

There are a lot of little details that could change things on this timeline but at least it will give you something to work off of! Smiley winking

Ours is 5hrs with ceremony in the same venue. We are not doing a lot of the traditional stuff but here is our timeline.

    5-5:30 Ceremony

    5:30-6:30 Cocktails

6:30 Formalitities our first dace and toasts

    7:00 Dinner Served

    8:30 Cake Cutting

    8:30-10 Dessert and Dancing

    9:30 Bar Closes

    10:00 Event Ends

Your DJ should be helping you create your timeline. However, in the interest of good karma:

    Cocktails: 50 min

    Grand Entrance/Introductions/Welcome: 10 min.

    Dinner/toasts: 60 min.

    Formal Dances: 20 min.

    First Dance Set: 30 min.

    Cake Cutting: 10 min.

    Garger/Bouquet: 10 min.

    Dance Set: 50 min.

That's 4 hours... and it works very well!
