I've looked at bridesmaid dresses and my problem with the ones I've seen is that they just don't feel bridal.. your dress sounds lovely!

The dress ordered for the person is specifically ordered for the person? Do stores take your initial measurements and order based off that? I know the street sizes and dress sizes are different, I've heard times where David's Bridal has ordered the dress 2 dress sizes bigger than the individual and then the person had to cover extra alteration costs.

My problem with wedding dresses is that it is literally 1 day, I'm trying to find used dresses and ways to not spend an arm and a leg, yet not many dresses are available in my price range.. I'd like to paint it afterwards so I'm not reselling, or else I would just rent a dress

View Quoted Comment Yes, the dress is specifically ordered for the person. Sometimes the store will recommend a certain size that is incorrect because they are not being truthful. Other times, the issue is that the person may be 1 size in the bust and another in the waist. You are supposed to order the dress based on the largest size any given part of you is, as it is easier to take in than let out. Sometimes the consultant is sketchy, so to avoid being told to order a dress that is larger than you are, you can measure yourself and check out the size guide on the website. If they insist you order a 12 when you're a 10, you can insist on the 10. The receipt you get should reflect the size you ordered. If it comes in and is a 14, you show the original paperwork that says you ordered a 10. If you buy a sample dress, it's usually cheaper. I got mine for 50% off the original price because it was a sample, and I walked out of the store with it that day so there were no surprises on fit.

Check the online sale section at BHLDN, their dresses are normally much more expensive but sometimes you can find really good deals in the sales.

For online shops, there's also JJ's House.

Check out JJs House if you want to buy online. They have a big selection for under $300.. a lot are about $100 and you can see their sizing chart and make a decision from there.

I ended up finding my dress on Marketplace which was unused, brand new with tags for $200CAD. It is possible to find something completely brand new for a steal.
