3.5 weeks out: Last minute Diys - yes or no?

Annie, on April 5, 2023 at 8:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

Hey friends!

It's 3 weeks, 2 days away from our wedding, we've got most of it organised, and I'm knackered. Should I attempt my two final 'wish list' items or just kick up my feet and relax?

#1: Wedding chalkboard

I am a chalkboard artist and have done a number of these for other weddings, but they are time consuming. I make the boards from scratch (3-4 layers of paint with drying time in between) and 8h of chalking. Ordinarily, I'd say, forget it, but it's what I do, and I feel like it'd be a bit of a shame not to for my own wedding.

#2: Waltz first dance

I do dance, but not ballroom. My fiance does not dance at all. I'd love for us to learn a choreographed Viennese waltz for our first dance, but this is fairly time- and energy-intensive.

Out of these two, #2 matters more to me. I've technically got enough time, but am pretty drained by this point. What is a reasonable goal at this point: none, one or both?

The question you need to ask yourself is if you'd regret not doing one or both of these? If the answer is yes, then I would do whichever one or both, you'd regret not doing. I will say making the sign sounds more doable than learning a choreographed dance.

Thanks, Veronica. You're right - I know exactly how to make a sign, but the dance is brand new territory for both of us. We'll see how things go.

Is your fiance also on board with doing the dance? If so then that is the obvious choice it seems. I think everyone would understand why you didn't make a chalkboard for your own wedding. Many wedding vendors don't use their own service. The dance will be fun, even if you both mess up I think that would make it more memorable.

I agree, chalkboard sounds easier...Maybe discuss with your fiance and ask their opinion. We practiced a few "cute" moves like spins and dips to tie into our first dance at certain points and called it a day.

Yeah, my fiance is totally on board with the dance. That's a huge relief to know that many wedding vendors don't use their own services, because creating chalkboards does tend to feel like work. We'll see how we go with the dance! Thanks, Alyssa Smiley smile

Oh, that's a good idea! A few 'cute' moves could work. Thanks, Brittany!
