3.5 months out!—any skincare tips?

Jazz, on March 1, 2019 at 9:37 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 24
My skin doesn’t trouble be too much other than the occasional breakouts on my cheeks. I also get under the skin zits and my forehead can get oily. However there isn’t anything really smooth or exceptional about my skin. I wish it was more even and bright (not oily). I only use an Aveeno foaming cleanser and a Aveeno moisturizer with SPF. Gross I know: but I don’t wash my face every day (unless I sweat). I tried doing it but it dried out my skin even though my cleanser if very mild. My skin can be pretty sensitive when it comes to dryness.
Anyone have any tips on getting my skin in its best shape? Did anyone try anything that worked for them before the wedding?
Things I’m planning on adding in: using a dermaroller and trying out some brightening masks. Working on diet!

Mario Badescu. Buy his products at Ulta they’re the best. I’ve always had some acne but can’t say I cared too much until recently and oh my goodness his products are life changing! They’re at Ulta. You need a good cleanser (he has an enzyme cleanser) to use twice a day. You also need a toner to use twice a day (he has a glycolic toner that rocks). Finally you need a great moisturizer, which of course he has. The alpha grapefruit one rocks. I use the Mario Badescu drying lotion overnight on any potential/current acne spots, too! The key, no matter the products you use, is to cleanse (AM and PM!) and moisturize (AM and PM!) I also really love No7’s brightening moisturizers!

Ulta has a little rollerball with tea tree oil and a couple of other ingredients. I bought it because my ordinary salicylic acid just wasnt doing the trick for me anymore. That thin has been amazing!! My skin is the smoothest it has ever been and i havent really had any major pimples since starting it! Its even helped a lot of my closed comedones finally “pop”! It was like $10?? I cant beat that. I suggest looking into an exfoliant once a week. Nothing too harsh or abrasive. Try purchasing travel sozes or asking for samples at ulta and sephora to try before putting serious money down! Im still trying to find my perfect moisturizer but cerave or cetaphil might be wonderful. I have dry sensitive skin and am experimenting with facial oils more than anything. Masking once or twice a week can also help give a natural glow and dont forget about your undereyes! Best of luck!

You got to make a habit of washing your face in the morning(to get rid of dirt dust and oils accumulated during the night) and in the evening( clearing off the sunblock, makeup, sweat, oil, dust and dirt you picked up during the day). The morning routine gives you a clean blank canvas to apply your make up and sunblock; the evening routine allows your skin to breathe overnight and repair itself.

You got to look at supplements: omega 3 oils are very beneficial to the skin as is collagen, and vitamin C.

Drink more water including green and herbal tea.

Adopt an anti-flammatory diet; your skin is the largest organ so it makes sense if there’s an imbalance in your body your complexion is the first thing that will immediately change.

These are habits to keep after you get married and habits you want to instill in your children someday. And they will be grateful for it too.

Proactiv did wonders to my face. Drinking plenty of water and eagling mostly lean protein and vegetables helps.

If you can afford it, I'd try a facial & microdermabrasion. I LOVED how my skin felt and looked after microdermabrasion! I really noticed a difference, it cost me $80 and was like a mini facial after.

I use Curology, you order it based on a skincare quiz you fill out and send in pictures of your skin. You are supposed to see positive results in 1-2 months, so in theory you would see results by your wedding. I also think not washing your face everyday is a super bad idea even if it dries out your skin. Can you use a micellar water instead? Or a face wash for dry skin, like a hydrating cleanser, followed by a lotion for dry skin? Hyaluronic acid is great for dry skin, I use a serum on the weekends and use a lotion & eye cream everyday that has it. I also drink 5-6 bottles of water a day, in addition to take vitamins for my hair skin and nails. I really think using a cleanser, toner, moisturizer & eye cream in the mornings then cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, eye cream, and face cream at night, in addition to masking on the weekends, works super well.

I just ordered one of those microdermal rollers!! I'm thinking I'll get a facial done in the next couple of months. I had my brows microbladed last week so I'm waiting until that's all healed. I've been trying the last couple of days to wash it more. It just seemed counterintuitive because I dont really have problem skin--I never had problems with acne or major pimples or anything like that. But when I started trying to wash it more, then it started being kind of problematic. So far it's working okay! I think my face is keeping more of its oils right now because I'm also working on growing my hair longer. One thing I had to cut back on was washing it (so the opposite of my face lol) because I do wash it fairly often. So I think that's helping my face retain more of it's oils! I'm just worried about my face fighting back from the increased washing and ramping up the oil production. I'm weird lol. So i use a decent Aveeno facewash (that I doublechecked recently to make sure is pH balanced) and then an Aveeno moisturizer that has SPF. I guess if the dryness comes back I could try a new moisturizer like you said that'll last longer. The problem with the dry skin was that I could put moisturizer on after washing every day but then it would become dry later on in the day and I'd have to continue putting on moisturizer when it was usually one and done for the next day that I didn't wash. I will look into the micellar water to at least wipe my face off (usually if it FEELS grimey or not completely clean then I'll wash it). I also drink a lot of water (and nothing but water) and have for years which I think is what helped me in adolescence when it came to acne. My parents told me they didn't have problems with their skin growing up either so it's probably a genetics thing as well. Thanks for the help!!!

I tried the dermarolling at home for 2 months, but found the results of professional microdermabrasion way better. I have pretty dry skin, and it stays dry unless I use the right cleanser, moisturizer, and sleep with a silk pillowcase & humidifier during the winter. I can't imagine not using a moisturizer every day or eye cream, it's helped my skin so much and will in the long run too. I'm sure seeing a dermatologist will help too for any last minute break outs!

Yes I totally want to try it professionally!! and YES! i just ordered a silk pillowcase as well lol. Figured it'd help with my crazy hair;didn't think about what it could do for my skin. I have really wanted to find an eye cream but I've gotten overwhelmed when trying to find one! I started putting vitamin E on my eyelids a few days ago though!

If you can get an extraction facial with a peel do it. You’ll probably need one a month to start out. Also you really need to wash twice a day and use a moisturizer (and toner too but at the very least add in a moisturizer).

See a dermatologist!!! Your skin is not like anyone else’s, it’s yours, and it’s a combination of all the things you eat, all the air you breathe, and all pillowcases you sleep on, etc.

In general, yes you should wash your face with a gentle cleanser (easy tip- avoid things with strong smells, that means they are hiding chemicals), and your should moisturize after. Timers are OK if you clear it with a derm but they can do more harm than good depending on your specific skin concerns.

Personally, I wash my face, use a cleansing wipe (pm only, to get remaining makeup, sweat, etc), then treat (I use specific things for acne) , then moisturize.

Do not mistake a makeup wipe for actually cleansing your face. I’ve made that mistake before. Any time you are using a makeup wipe or remover, wash that stuff off!

Lol ugh my co-pay is $70 and I don't have a real reason to go I don't think--no breakouts or anything. I'd like my pores to be better but they're not bad enough I don't feel.

And thanks for the tip!! I was actually considering using a face wipe at the beginning of the day and then washing at the end of the day just in case my case can't take being washed twice a day or every day. Didn't realize I'd still have to wash after that!

See if your insurance offers a telemedicine appointment for cheaper! Even just talking through a routine with a pro can be a huge help I have found. For instance, if you’re having skin irritation from two gentle face washes per day, you may want to get a prescription face wash or it may indicate something to a derm about what your skin needs. I feel like I’ve personally wasted so much money on skincare by following people’s advice who aren’t doctors... don’t forget your skin is an organ just like your lungs and heart! Best of luck though girl! Wishing you a glowing complexion for your big day Smiley smile Smiley smile

I use face reality products! Here is my aesthetician: https://thriveskincareandwellness.com/about/

She does online appointments too! If you're not in San Diego.

She told me aveeno products actually make oily skin worse!!! I used to use them too. I used Marcia and my skin cleared up in 3 months and I had acne my WHOLE LIFE!
