2nd Marriage and a shower

AmyJo, on June 3, 2017 at 4:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

So this is going to be my second marriage and I wanted your thoughts on a shower and registering. Do you think it's still appropriate to register and have a shower?

No, I agree. I wasn't going to go that route at all.

I'm going to be honest and say it would depend to some degree

Is it both parties second marriage?

How long since the prior marriage?

I don't think it's inappropriate per se, but personally I'd be a lot less likely to say buy China or crystal if I'd bought something like that the first time around. At the same time if I was invited to a second wedding I wouldn't show up giftless.

I would register. If someone offers to throw you a shower that is fine. I think it depends on the circumstances too. One cousin it was his 1st marriage but his wife's 2nd. We still hosted a shower for her because she eloped the first time (I think even if she had a wedding we would have thrown one since we didn't even know her during her 1st marriage).

Another cousin it was her 2nd marriage, but her husband's 1st. Our family did not host a shower for her this go round, the groom's family did. One was hosted for her 6 years earlier at her 1st marriage and we know she kept all the gifts after separating from her husband after 6 weeks. So I think due to those circumstances family member's were feeling less generous.

Thanks guys. It's 2nd weddings for both of us and our 1st weddings were 15 and 17 yrs ago. My matron of honor wants to throw a Jack and Jill shower for us but I've been struggling with whether it's appropriate or not. We don't live together yet, he's moving in at the end of March (June 2018 wedding) and the stuff I have is cheap stuff I bought after my divorce. So 1/2 of me says yes to the shower and the other 1/2 says maybe we shouldn't register.

I say yes, we too are having our 2nd, both first were rushed, no real wedding just ceremony. We are planning a couples shower thrown by our kids/family. Kids range from 20-5.

Kate, by Jack and Jill she means couples or co-ed. No raffle tickets or silly games.

I'll update my avatar now, thanks!

2nd time for both of us and we registered for bed bath and beyond. We told people you don't have to buy us anything but if you would like we do have a registry
