$250 for a bridesmaids dress?

Hi all! I'm wondering what price range most people are going with for their bridesmaids dresses? The one I would love my girls to have is $250. I'm not having a bachelorette party or shower, so I'm hoping this can help balance that cost a bit. Also the girls live local so there aren't any travel...

I plan on paying for their shoes and jewelry, too. Any thoughts?

You need to speak to your bridesmaid each privately and ask for their budget. Only then will you know ht answer to that question. If someone only has a budget of $100-$150 then you will have to decide if you wish to pay the difference or find another dress in their price range. I can tell you that usually if you look around you will find a similar style for a lesser price. We found a dress that we loved....our budget was no more than $150...this dress was $200....we kept searching and literary found the same style dress to include the same color for $150 thru a different designer. There was a difference between the two however all it was was two seams in the skirt. Good luck

Don’t forget to factor in alterations as well. My daughter paid $200 for a BM dress and $108 on top of that for alterations. I asked my seamstress and she said her average cost for BM alterations last year was $110. Plus they’ll have to have it cleaned afterwards.

    That’s great news!
I still personally think it’s a lot, but I know the feeling -the dresses I LOVED were $295 each. I found them on poshmark and eBay for $40-$150 and four of my girls went this route, and two purchased new. Perhaps this could be an option for your girls if anyone is looking to save/ spend less?

I tried to be mindful of this when picking bridesmaid dresses. I also picked them early enough and paid attention to when they were having sales or Black Friday specials. My one BM got hers for $80, another $90, and the most expensive was $125, but that was only because it was plus-size and unfortunately cost more to begin with due to that.

I think $250 is too expensive.

Everyone's budget is different but I personally think $250 is too much for a bridesmaid dress. I chose a dress that was $60 for my girls because I knew if I were in their position I wouldn't want to shell out a ton of money on a dress I would never wear again.

I would ask each of your girls individually. I would never spend $250 on a bridesmaid dress that I would never wear again. My girls only spent $25 on their dresses because I don’t want them to be overwhelmed.

Well I went through and found some cheaper alternatives and talked to the girls about them. They all said they'd rather spend the extra to get the original dress, though, because they just love that one. Thankfully it's a dress that doesnt have a zipper so alterations should be fairly minimum. If need be I can always do their alterations. I've done my own alterations on all the bridesmaids dresses I've had without issue.

Ask them what their budget is before falling in love with dresses. Whoever has the lowest budget is the price range you need to stick to.

Love that your girls are good with them! AND I'm so jealous you can do alterations!! I can quilt, and hem pants, but I haven't done much more than that.

$200 and under is acceptable especially when you have to factor in alterations. There are a lot of dresses in the $100 - $150. Talk to your BM about their budgets.

Lol yeah I took sewing in middle and high school and it kinda stuck. Luckily I'm a makeup artist, too, so I dont have to worry about that expense for the girls. And I have a hairstylist family member whose wedding I did the makeup for free for everyone a year ago, so I'm hoping to get the favor returned here lol. If not I'll just pay for the girls.
