25 age limits everywhere!! Use someone else’s info?

Lindsey, on February 5, 2021 at 11:08 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13
We decided we wanted to rent a cabin in the mountains for our honeymoon because you get so much more for the same price you would get at some hotel or resort. The problem is every place you have to be at least 25, we’re 23!! My MIL suggested we just use her information, it’s just a lockbox it’s not like you’re going to meet with anyone and be caught but I don’t know.. I found one resort around the area we will be going to for attractions but it’s the same price and not NEARLY as nice & it’s in the middle of the woods... Not exactly what I pictured.

Are you looking through Airbnb? If so, I know that's their age limit to book as well. You could try VRBO which is basically the same as Airbnb, but I'm not sure what their age limit is!

I found the cabin through a cabin rental company in the area! I knew about the 25 age limit for services like airbnb, I was hoping it wouldn’t be that way through every service but it unfortunately seems to be 😩

I mean you could risk it, but I think they have the age limit for legal purposes, and in case something happens! I'm a stickler for following rules & guidelines, so I wouldn't use her info if she isn't coming but I do know a lot of people younger than 25 that have used Airbnb with no problems.

Hopefully someone here can give a little more insight!!

I was able to rent a cabin using VRBO to celebrate my 21st birthday with friends, while obviously being under 25. I recommend sending a message with the people you want to rent the cabin from, and thoroughly explain your situation. Tell them, "Hi, I am absolutely in love with your cabin and my fiancee and I would absolutely LOVE it if we could use it as a place to stay to celebrate our honeymoon. I promise you that we'll leave this place cleaner than when we arrived, and we'll follow the rules of the cabin to the tee" make sure to sight what the problem is, and why you contacted them. Understand that hiding things from the people you rent that cabin from, can lead to problems, be upfront and honest, no matter how silly the reason is.

I think that rule is usually to prevent college students from renting places to party. I would just explain that you're on your honeymoon and responsible. Maybe offer a cosigner if someone is willing to do that for you. I definitely wouldn't lie, you might get away with it but if you don't it could be pretty bad legally or they could fine you. I think I ran into this issue a few years ago but our vacation got cancelled so I never got to see what would happen, but the above was my plan.

As pp stated you could try to explain your situation and see if they let you rent it. Or maybe you can say your MIL wants to book it for you guys as a honeymoon gift.

I am an Airbnb host and you cannot book for someone else because it asks for ID from the person booking and I would obviously see the person checking in. But if their policy is similar to hotels, people book for others all the time.

It is like having a person cosign a loan. They want a person to sign they are taking responsibility, one with assets. Will one of your parents?

When I was 20 and rented a ski chalet, way in advance my parents signed a guarantee, and we did no damage. Deposit returned

So, technically speaking, it's illegal for them to refuse to rent to you as long as you have the methods of paying. They're able to charge a higher price, or more of a deposit, but it is actually illegal to refuse service based on age. Or at least it was a few years ago (I find it unlikely that that changed). I'm not sure how these companies get away with it, search your local state law and refer to that.

👆 This. Also, I worked for a cabin rental place in Broken Bow for a short time and we had a few people email and explain they were younger but wanted to rent the cabin. The owners charged a higher non refundable deposit but they rented the cabins out, no problem.

When my sister and brother-in-law married, they were 20. They couldn’t rent a room or a car or anything for their honeymoon. My mom rented a room on their wedding night, but she had to check them in. They didn’t realize that, so he called crying because she had to drive 30 minutes out there to check them in. They ended up staying at a less nice hotel during their actual honeymoon so they didn’t have to deal with that. My sister said she’d do it all the same way again because they got to stay in a nice place for a few nights right after their wedding and then they had a great time on their honeymoon, but she was pregnant so they didn’t spend much time in their room because she wasn’t up for those things at that point.
