2022 Wedding - Covid Concerns?

Kaitlin, on August 2, 2021 at 5:40 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

Hi everyone! May 2022 bride here.

I know this is a safe space and I'm not trying to get anyone riled up and stressed out but....I'm a bit concerned with the latest numbers of Covid cases in the US.

None of us are fortune tellers (unfortunately), but what does everyone think will happen in 2022? I live in NY and the vaccine rates are pretty promising, but do you think there could be another shut down?

My fiancé and I have 186 people on the guestlist, and expect 150ish to RSVP YES. Eeek! I'm nervous and scared because we decided on May 2022 with the expectation that things would be completely fine by then.

Would love to read other people's thoughts - especially who are getting married in 2022! Thanks!

I wish I were able to offer some advice, because I am in the same boat. We decided that we will not reschedule our wedding if it comes down to it- just find somewhere to get eloped. We are currently planning our wedding in California where we live- but will be moving to a different state (thank god) shortly after our planned wedding date. We chose our wedding date since it would be two years after the original shut down and honestly my political views aside, I wont keep replanning if this keeps going on. It's just too stressful let alone to have to reschedule then be in a different state and spend even more money to travel back.

All of that being said I am hoping and praying every day that things will stay open and we can have the wedding we have worked so hard for.

We picked October 2022 thinking this would all be over and now I'm not so sure...We are also expecting around 150 RSVP's so I'm trying to keep my cool and not stress about it. Worst case scenario- we cut our guest list down significantly and keep our date & venue Luckily they've been wonderful to work with so far and they have indoor/outdoor areas available onsite. I do think they they would be able to work with us if we need to adjust due to guest count.

We picked Sept 2022, and while we asked all of the venues and vendors about reschedules, I'll likely just downsize significantly if it ends up still being something of concern at that time.

I'm the same as you -- same state, same month, around the same number of guests. We already postponed once. Right now we're just holding tight and seeing what happens. We do have a back-up plan to make our wedding adults only if there are no widespread vaccinations for kids by that time. It's promising to know that vaccination rates have gone up in the past week. The country as a while has finally hit the 70% goal and NY state is offering people cash incentives, which have been very effective in other places. I know we all hate hearing this, but things change every week with COVID so I don't think there's any way to guess about 9 months from now.

We're getting married in February 2022 and I'm also freaking out a little... If it's really bad, we're just going to do a small ceremony with only our parents and best men (I have a Man of Honor Smiley smile) and postpone the party. My fiancé thinks that any new measures will be targeting those non-vaccinated, so another option would be to uninvite anyone who's refusing to get vaccinated- but that would exclude some of my family members and I'm a little torn about it. But it's not off the table.

If you plan your wedding off what MIGHT happen, you will never get married. Move forward with planning your May wedding and reevaluate the Covid situation closer to time.

    Happy planning!

Our wedding is next Aug in Chicago. We have put down deposits for venue (including catering), floral, and photographer so far. Our next payment due date is in February. We are planning on waiting to see what the situation is like by then. If the pandemic is still a huge problem, and international travel is still not fully open, we will cancel the wedding, and just do a small backyard ceremony and celebrate with friends and family later. It would not be ideal (yes, we will just forfeit our deposits), but with international travel required for some of our family members, and his parents in the “at risk” age group, we don’t want to risk anything.

May 2022 bride here. We were supposed to net married this coming September, but decided last year to postpone. I'm praying this pandemic improves as I don't want to put our vendors through anymore changes. I'll be honest, the stress and worry this pandemic brings has taken the fun out of planning our wedding.

It will most likely stay around for another two years. So make small plans.
