2021 Competition

Is anyone else feeling like all the forced postponements is making it harder to find and book vendors for 2021? I just got engaged in January and 2021 was always the plan and people keep saying, "You have plenty of time," but I'm feeling the pressure to book, book, book.

Definitely feeling that. It’s hard trying to book with extra weddings taking place. Don’t feel pressured to book anyone if you aren’t comfortable with it! I‘ve been reaching out to a few vendors at a time and not waiting for each to respond back. Thankfully there’s tons out there so hopefully you’ll mesh with more than one and have a few options!

Based on the fact that you're about 14 months away, I think you're right on time to book for some major vendors now. Because of this unfortunate pandemic, I'd say now is even more of an important time to do so. The only thing I'd say is book vendors who truly meet your budget and whose work/product you enjoy, not because you feel rushed. Proceed with research and you'll be good to go!

I definitely see this happening as well. My wedding is September 2021 and we’re already running into lots of vendors without our date available

My FH and I got engaged Dec. 2018. He wanted a two year engagement which was fine with me. I used that time to research venues and vendors. We booked almost everything at the beginning of this year. The only thing left to do is book a hairdresser and buy my dress and his tux.

I like that we booked everything ahead of time bc due to this pandemic no one really knows what’s going to happen. Weddings are being moved to later dates and for 2021.
I would suggest you to do research you still have time. Make calls and send emails with questions. But I would definitely start just bc of the times we’re in. I may need to move my wedding for all I know and it’s not until next year.
Definitely start doing some research and what your budget is.

Absolutely! There is going to be a huge influx in the number of weddings in 2021 due to all the reschedules. This is exactly why we already made the decision to postpone our Fall 2020 wedding until Fall of 2021. I keep seeing people saying they are going to wait til Aug or Sept to decide on whether to postpone their Oct/Nov weddings because they don’t want to wait longer to get married if they don’t have to.... but I’m wondering if waiting until the last minute to decide will end up causing them to have to push it out even further (or have to pick a different season to get married in) because their vendors are already booked up for next year. 2021 is gearing up to be “the year of the weddings”!

Feeling that here too! Every vendor I have contacted has been contacted by many other couples so I have tried to book everything so that I don’t have to worry.

I recently postponed mine from 07/11/20 to 07/11/21 and my venue had open dates for 07/10 and 07/11 surprisingly. I rescheduled DJ, venue, and photographer so far. Thankfully I didn’t confirm the remaining vendors.

Yes this is why we decided on just doing a destination wedding. All of our venue tours were canceled due to COVID it was super hard trying to book a wedding here for the date we wanted and we had no idea how long this was going to last.

I would say start booking now or as soon as you can. We are getting married in November 2021 and I already have my venue, DJ and photographer booked and I’m thanking myself every day for getting an early start because there is a LOT of competition in my area for couples to reschedule.

We're considering postponing and our videographer is already booked for the date so we need to find a new one.

I would say get your most important vendors first because if they are popular, they will probably book quick.

I went to book my venue back in Oct 2019 for my wedding to be in Oct 2020. And by the grace of God, the venue manager actually gave my date away to another couple the same day. I was so upset about it at first, and then i made the ultimate decision to push my wedding back another year to 2021 because the date I wanted in 2020 (10/10) was too popular and i knew i wouldnt be able to find another venue I loved with that date available. Boyyy am I glad it worked out that way because no one saw this pandemic coming. All of my main vendors (Venue, Catering, DJ, Photog/Videog) were already booked pre-pandemic and it has been smooth sailing for my fiance and I! Please utilize this time to get your vendors booked because the pandemic brides are scrambling to reschedule!!

I have found it to kind of be the opposite. vendors have seemed kind of desperate actually. most of my newly engaged friends are planning for 2022.

I'm supposed to be a 2020 bride and we had to postpone to 2021. I will say that when we reached out to all of our vendors about availability for next year there was the least amount of overlapping availability early in the wedding season but most of them had dates later in the summer and fall. So I'd say if you know you want to get married in 2021, at least nail down your biggest vendors (venue and catering, I'd lump photographer there as well) a year in advance to have a decent amount of choices to pick from. If you are trying to book a spring 2021 wedding now you will find your options limited, but summer and fall are not as bad. Once we get into July and August, summer 2021 will likely fill up as well.

I was very worried about it, too. My wedding is 2/14/21. Luckily, I anticipated it being a problem, so I contacted our venue and caterer in mid March. They were happy to reschedule us before everyone else starts looking for dates. I'm terrified of photographers, DJs, officiants and hair/makeup booking up quick, so I've already reached out to people and put deposits down to hold our date. The only thing I haven't nailed down is the bakery, but I have reached out to one. We want a custom design, so I'm hoping for a consultation this summer.

Do what you can and try to breathe. It will all be ok. 💜

I got engaged June 2019 and started planning October 2019. I had venues already booked for my date. Get ur venue locked ASAP! The cheapest things go first !
