2020 Wedding Canceled - 2021 Wedding Planning

Mel_B, on July 30, 2020 at 8:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
So we canceled our wedding in December of 2020 because of everything going on. That being said we are looking at November/December of 2021 now.

We are starting completely from scratch and taking this as a completely new wedding (other than florist and photographer). Has anyone found venders are booking up quicker in 2021 now? I have found some venues I contacted aren’t even taking reservations for next year, and some with weekends almost all booked for those months. (I am in FL so winter months are peak wedding season).

I know that many vendors are booking for 2021 already solely because many people had to cancel their weddings because of COVID.

Vendors are unfortunately definitely booking up quicker than normal for 2021, with everyone postponing from 2020. Keep searching! You will find one. Maybe also consider non-traditional venues, such as an aquarium or library? Otherwise, if you're willing to move to a Friday wedding instead of Saturday, you may have more vendor options.

I’ve found this to be true (New England). Most venues we talked to had one or two Saturdays in 2021 (usually 9/11 and 11/27). Granted, we looked at pretty traditional venues! We’re going for a Friday wedding, although we still have to book all other vendors & I can’t say I’m not nervous!

First of all, I love your attitude! I think starting from scratch and creating a completely different wedding separate from the one you had initially planned is such a great idea! I think that would alleviate a lot of depressed feelings about the situation, or it feeling like a “left over” wedding. It’s probably also much more fun to plan again!
As for your questions about vendors being filled up for 2021... yes! That is actually why we ended up postponing our wedding so quickly when this pandemic hit! I had contacted my vendors in April just to get a feel for what they would have available in 2021 just in case we decide to postpone, and many of them were already filling up! We didn’t want to risk not having our date available the following year, so we decided really early on to postpone. It makes sense when you think about it though- Not only are all the people who had already planned on having weddings in 2021 booking, but now thousands of weddings from 2020 are trying to squeeze in there too. If I were you, I would lock down vendors ASAP. I have heard about lots of vendors & venues raising their prices significantly for 2021. I’m sure they know the competition is going to be steep next year, and they are capitalizing on it. They are probably trying to recoup some of the money they lost on cancellations/postponements this year.

Starting from scratch has actually made it more exciting again! I am able to look at the original plan and think of all the things I would of done differently now. I also thank it gave me and my fiance a chance to rethink everything and make sure everything is exactly what we want.
