I've recently gotten engaged... and by recently i mean this past Saturday. Eager as i am, i just think a 2 year engagement is too long. We also have his brother's wedding and also my cousin's wedding to attend soon, so out of respect we would wait until they have their weddings, but i just think...

Any thoughts?

We got engaged in April of 2014 and getting married this May, so we will have had a 2 year 1 month Engagement.

Honestly, there are pros and cons to it, but it really depends on you guys and your situation.

For us in NYC, a 2 year engagement has allowed us to plan and save A LOT. We booked ALL of our vendors in 2014, so we were able to have 1st pick of all of our vendors, which meant we got all of our #1 picks. We also booked at 2014 pricing for a 2016 wedding, I've seen some of the rates now.. My how much things can change in just 2 years!

Also, because we booked all of our vendors in 2014 we had a better idea of exactly how much money we would need to save and were able to make a practical plan of how we would do it.

I have honestly has a fairly stress free wedding planning experience because I never felt rushed to do anything (yet that is!). I planned on my own time, which just so happened to be earlier but it really worked. Once I had all of our vendors booked I started working on some of the "little" stuff that gets put off until right before the wedding so I could try to get ahead of things as much as possible. Its been really great.

I wont lie, there was a point where I felt like May 2016 was NEVER going to get here! But as soon as we hit the 1 year mark, time has really been flying and now we're down to 4 and a half months and I feel like I don't even know where time is going!

My engagement is 20 months long and I thought it was too long at first but it actually went by pretty fast. It also gave us a lot longer to save money for the wedding and I was able to plan little by little and not feel rushed. I was also in 2 of my friend's weddings last year so it was nice to spread ours out a bit.

    Congrats by the way!

As others have said, it depends on your reasoning for wanting it sooner. We were engaged in May 2014 and will marry in July of this year. I absolutely loved having a long engagement. I didn't feel rushed to make decisions, and was therefore able to get exactly what I wanted for our wedding without having to do things because I was on a time crunch.

FH and I are doing a two year engagement (engaged Sept 2014) and honestly it gave us the opportunity to save without really feeling the burden of wedding costs.

I got engaged in March 2013 and we will be getting married this September so it will be 3.5 years. We didn't initially plan it that way but it has worked out. As for you I would say if you want to get married sooner then you will find a way.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a 2 year engagement but it really depends on you and how you feel about it.

Are there restrictions as to when during the year you can or can't get married? My FH and I are both professors so the only real time we have to get married is during the summer. Since we got engaged formally in December, we were originally planning for July 2017, but on a bit of a spur of the moment convo, decided to plan for August 2016 because it worked better for us for personal reasons. 9 months feels a bit short to me but 20 months felt too long. Be aware that no matter what you choose, everyone will have their opinions. Just do what is right for you.

We will end up having a 20 month engagement the only reason being 2016 is booked with vacation and a couple friends weddings.
