2 separate songs walking down the aisle?

Harleybeachbride, on October 5, 2016 at 12:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

I'm confused about picking a song for the bridal party/family to walk down the aisle to, and then a separate song when I walk. I am having a smallish wedding, just a maid of honor, my future step daughter as my bridesmaid, a flower girl and ring bearer.

My question is, would it be awkward to have a song for bridal party that cuts off in middle (as it wouldn't take long) then a different one starts right up for me? Would having one song for all of us make more sense?

The aisle isn't super long either.....please share your experiences, thoughts and opinions.

Thanks so much,

:+)

No it would be strange. I have the same problem too that there is a short walk to the groom. We have a song for them and as soon as its my turn to walk they are switching the song.

It sounds just fine to me. Every wedding I've ever been to- regardless of aisle length or setup, the bride always had "her own song".

At my friends wedding, they had the grandparents and parents seated, and the bridal party walk down to the same song. By the time everyone got seated and walked down aisle, the song was over or at least to a point where it could be faded out.

That wouldnt be strange at all. and you would honestly be surprised on how long it takes people to walk down the aisle. If you have them completely walk down one by one, with a slight pause in between them, it could last the whole song. But if it doesnt, a good DJ would be able to fade out the first song into the second song without it sounding weird.

I went to a wedding where they cut off a song in the middle before the bride walked and it wasn't awkward. I actually thought it was really unique and cute. It sort of punctuated the bride's entrance.

I'm confused. What happened to "here comes the bride?" I haven't seen it at any wedding I've been to either, is it totally old fashioned now? I think it's fine to cut the song u should have your own!

It's fine to have a separate song for the BP and the bride; as PP have said, a good DJ will be able to transition them smoothly and seamlessly.

I'm foregoing the traditional Wedding March because I personally can't stand the song. It has nothing to do with it being "old fashioned" and more to do with it setting my nerves on edge. lol I'm doing Canon in D instead, so it still sounds traditional and bridal.

I'm only planning to have one song for everyone. There's no point in picking 2 songs and barely getting to hear them

We're doing one song for the bridal party (still haven't chosen it plz send help), and a separate for me. It doesn't have to cut off abruptly - you can fade it out wherever your BP stops and it will be just fine.

@FutureMrsNerd - what are your general musical tastes? I have a whole bunch of songs for a processional, but could only pick one. LOL

Music of the Night - Andre Rieu (or any instrumental version)

    Canon in D

    Ode to Joy

    All of Me - Instrumental

Beauty and the Beast - Instrumental

If you have a favorite song (any song), see if you can find it by the Vitamin String Quartet or some other strings group; it's amazing how something sounds when done that way! Good luck!

We are doing 3.... FH insists on walking down to his own song so he can be goofy. It's his wedding too, so why not? Then the BP will walk together, then I will come down.

@ ZAZ...yes I've heard of the VSQ (they sound super classy) especially as my taste in music tends to lean towards the 60's/70's classic rock n roll genre. Perhaps an Aretha Franklin, Zeppelin, Van Morrison, or a Fleetwood Mac tune of some kind....that would be a good idea to consider VSQ as I'm not a super traditional bride.

No it's totally normal, the bride usually has her own song. My bridal party is walking into canon in d. Then I'm doing the traditional here comes the bride. It sounds amazing in my church with the trumpet organs. @laura, see I'm old fashioned too!

We had 3 processional songs. The musicians knew to just play a certain number of verses, or fade out, or whatever they do. #1 for the grandmothers and parents of the groom, #2 for the bridal party - 6 couples walked separately, and #3 for me and my parents.

We just had one processional song. Our DOC and musicians asked a few times what *my* song was going to be before they got that we wanted just one, so I think the normal way to do it is for the bride to have her own.

@Harley - I found an amazing strings cover of Green Day's 21 Guns. It sounded like the song, but not, and was pretty darn haunting. So definitely look into them, and make your walk down the aisle your own!!

Not strange - As a wedding officiant, I will attest to the fact that most brides have their won song, even if the bridal party is very small - A good DJ will make it work

One piece of advice - Have the officiant also walk in to the bridal party song just to elongate it a little

I hate when the music just cuts out. Sounds unplanned. If you can do a fade I feel like that makes it better. Literally just have whoever is doing the music literally slowly turn the music down until its off.
