2 Restrooms per Gender, 175 Guests - Is it Enough?

Cooper, on August 28, 2019 at 11:40 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 12
Hi all, we started touring our top venue choices this weekend. I haven’t had an “omg this is the one, I’m in love” moment like it seems so many people here have, but we have narrowed it down to our top 3. Our top contender only has 2 bathroom stalls per gender though, and I just don’t think it’s enough for what will probably be at least 160 people. The reception area supposedly fits 250 people though, so clearly larger weddings have been held there and the venue gets great reviews. The bathrooms are also nice.

It is a private golf club so renting portapotties isn’t really an option, there wouldn’t be a space for them anyway. There is a restroom in the locker/getting ready space but it’s kinda far from the reception and I’m not sure if it can be open to me/maids/moms all night (I’ll ask). That would at least make things a little better.

I really dont don’t want to make this decision based on bathrooms lol. But any brides here who have had 150+ person weddings want to offer some sage advice?

I had 250 guests but the venue I had also had other event going on same time and the bathroom only had three stalls each. Should be fine aha.

Our friends wedding was about 200 people and they had the same thing, 2 stalls per gender, and there was no problem. When I drink a lot, I pee a lot (hahah) so I would know the bathroom situation. I was fine, did not have to wait, no lines, nothing. It was all fine.

I honestly think it's fine. There might be a little wait for the bathroom right after the ceremony or after dinner, but otherwise I'd guess it'd be a semi-steady flow of people but no lines.

I just wanted to say that I never had that "omg this is the one" moment for our venue either! We just found the best one that had our date, could fit our guests and that we liked! We are happy with it, but we never had like a "omg its perfect" moment or anything like that!

Brianna thank you so much for mentioning that! I’ve been really bent up about not really finding something that is “perfect” - if we did “perfect” it would be double our budget! And this is one magical day, but it’s still just a day. I was really hoping to have a magical moment with a venue, but all the ones we’ve seen would work just fine. Our vision is “big fun party” and all these places could do that and people will drink and have fun. That’s what matters to us Smiley smile

I rented a restroom trailer for our (backyard) wedding, and when I told places 150 guests, all suggested a 3 restroom trailer— so it’s what we went with. We ultimately have 125, but 3 toilets was plenty.

Exactly! I mean there are definitely venues that I am sure I would feel that way about, but wayyy more then we are willing to spend. Honestly, I have been using these forums for awhile now and pretty much everyone who comes back after their weddings to share how it went says that they didn't even notice the decor, etc. The most important things are always the food, alcohol and music! I think we overthink a ton of things, so we decided to try to take a step back and not stress ourselves out about whether things like venue and decor are perfect! It'll be an amazing day regardless Smiley smile

I had about the same number of stalls and people - we didn't have any issues.

I think you will be totally fine. We had 55 people and only ONE shared bathroom for both genders and it was fine.

If other reviews haven't mentioned it being a problem, I wouldn't worry about it. I can't really relate, we had 125 guests and had two sets of bathrooms for each gender (one with 1 stall and one with 3 stalls per group).

A good rule of thumb is one toilet for every 50 people. Most building codes actually require less than that so it is conceivable that four toilets are code-compliant for 250 people (though that isn’t really your concern)... you’ll be fine (unless every single person decides they need to use the restroom at the same time).

Not something I thought about actually, but I am pretty sure our venue only has two stalls in the women's. Maaaybe 3 but I can't recall, for about 100 guests. I think it's fine!
