2 Questions

Charlotte, on April 13, 2020 at 11:19 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Food + Beer/Wine/Soda = $89/guest (guests can purchase liquor or champagne)

Food + Beer/Wine/Soda + Champagne = $97/guest (guests can purchase liquor)

Food + Open Bar = $102/guest (guests can purchase champagne)

Food + Open Bar + Champagne = $110/guest

My 2 Questions:

-Is it tacky to have a bar option where guests can purchase hard liquor when having all other drinks provided free?

-Would you rather have beer wine and champagne or an open bar with no champagne?

So far, we are thinking of doing Beer/Wine/Soda + Champagne since I mainly drink champagne/wine and groom mainly drinks beer... we rarely drink hard liquor. My family drinks beer/wine but no hard liquor and his family drinks beer/wine and hard liquor. Trying not to spend more than $100/guest if we can help it, as we are expecting 100+ guests.

Thank you so much for your help!

I don’t think guests should pay for their liquor. What ever option you choose, them paying for anything shouldn’t be an option. If it’s in your budget I’d do food and open bar. And if you must have champagne just have it for toasting. But honestly you can toast with anything. If you must stay below 100$ then the beer, wine soda and champagne would be the best bet. If you could spring the extra 2$pp for an open bar go for it.

I think it's ok to have just wine and beer only, actually. i'd nix the champagne.

If you're not going to have a full open bar I wouldn't do a cash bar for liquor. I would keep it on beer and wine and champagne if you want but not many people drink champagne but if that's your drink then go for it!

I don’t think very many people drink champagne outside of a single champagne toast. I would do option 1 or 3. You could also purchase a single champagne glass for everyone to toast at one point (but not offer it at the bar)

Guests should never have to pay for anything at the reception. If you can't afford to cover it, skip it. Your guests will be fine without it.

I wouldn’t even offer the cash liquor bar. The beer/wine + champagne is completely acceptable! Beer and wine would also be completely fine, but since you enjoy champagne, adding it on would be nice for yourself.

Groups are different, we upgraded our champagne for our reception as we expect it to be very popular - our friends love bubbles!

The beer/wine is completely fine! I understand that people prefer open bars, but it’s so costly! Do what you think is appropriate for your budget/crowd. We are doing beer and wine provided at our wedding!
