2 nights before wedding- family in town- ideas?

Nicole, on February 3, 2020 at 10:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
Our wedding is in Orlando and 80% of our family is making an extended vacation out of it and we’re super excited! The night before the rehearsal well have 25-30 already checked in (both sides). I don’t want to dictate everyone’s plans or offer to host something (more $$&dollarSmiley winking any ideas as a way to see everyone without hosting being implied? It’s vacation season then and I worry if the group tries to dine together we won’t be seated anywhere. So then I think. Hmm do I make a reservation somewhere and interested parties can join? Ack torn. We’re both very close to our families and I have a feeling both sides will want to gather.

Maybe a potluck type picnic thing? I’m not really familiar with Orlando, though my fiancé and I are going there this coming weekend for an extended weekend trip

We just went to an out of town wedding on NYE & I liked their idea a lot! The bride & groom invited anyone that arrived early to meet them at the hotel bar after 9 PM the night before the wedding (so they still had plenty of time for rehearsal & dinner). They then covered one drink for each guest (you wouldn’t even have to do this). This was cutely noted on the details card so everyone knew ahead of time. It was very casual but fun to see & be able to talk to other guests & the bride/groom got to talk to people more!

How about Disney Springs?! We’re from Orlando and when our friends and family fly in, we’re doing it there!

Yeah Disney Springs is an idea---- we have lots of ideas of places to go--- we just didn't know how to handle logistics and informing everyone... This is the night BEFORE the rehearsal- just to clarify

If you are planning on doing Disney springs and want to make a reservation, use OpenTable instead of the Disney site/app (if you end up not going or cancelling within 24 hrs Disney charges you $10/person-eek!)

In terms of informing everyone you have several options. You can put it on your website and word it to where it is not required or paid for. For example "if anyone will be in town on Thursday night and looking for something to do, we will be hanging out at __________"
Or you can place info in your welcome bags or be super casual and create a Facebook event and allow people to let you know if they're going so you can make a reservation.
I love the idea of Disney springs because you can all meet there and everyone can choose their own thing for food, can say hi then do their own thing, etc. That way there is a group event but no one is stuck doing something and have some freedom in their choices! Theres also Splitsville bowling where you can reserve lanes ahead of time that could be fun!
We are locals and my fiance works at Disney so our friend group goes to springs with larger groups (10-20 people) a lot and its tons of fun!

Is everyone staying at the same place? You could always do a relaxing evening by the pool, and inform everyone by word of mouth! "We'll be hanging out by the pool from 6-8 (or whatever time), feel free to join us!" That way if people had independent plans, they don't feel like they're missing a wedding event, it doesn't cost you anything, and its low key before the big day!
