2 ceremonies, 2 different states

Nandrea, on September 29, 2017 at 4:02 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

I am freaking out a little inside... I am planning two ceremonies.. one I Florida where my FH and I live and the other in my home state of New York.. we both immediate family that can't travel long distance for health reasons. These are the people that want to be at our wedding the most. Has anyone does else does this? Any pointers? I'm doing as much of this DIY as I can!

Try to make them rather different so it's harder for you to directly compare them.

So are you having two receptions as well? Because if you are inviting someone to a ceremony, you thank them for their attendance with a reception.

Maybe have the NY one be more traditional (if that's what you like) since you want your dad to walk you down and do something informal but beautiful for Florida maybe around somewhere scenic. Or maybe in one you decide to have a ceremony in a church and the other somewhere scenic (if you or FH are religious)

A friend of mine did this. One here in Hawaii where they live and one back home for her family. The one here was more intimate so it was done at the beach and we went to their favorite restaurant afterwards. She told me that the one back home was just going through the motions (so no certificate was signed) for the sake of her family and her family actually planned everything out and made it a huge bbq party instead of the bride and groom planning anything. Her family wanted to witness everything so they totally took the reins and made sure all they had to do was make the flight out to them. It was sweet.

So why not have a small personal ceremony and two receptions?

I had one in the states and one in Eastern Europe. The one in Europe we just had a big dinner celebration with 170 of my hubby's friends and family. We skipped the ceremony so it was really just the reception. I was still in a wedding dress though and we had cake.

The one in the states was when we had our ceremony. Again we had a reception with mostly my family and friends.

Good thing the one in Europe was super cheap though. It was like $3-4K for the 170 people.

Two ceremonies, two receptions... my FH and I feel that is the way to do it that... the one is NY will be the larger of the two for sure. The one in Florida will be at the head one of our beautiful crystal clear springs that him and I love to kayak, the one in NY is going to be a rustic barn wedding

Will everyone at the Florida ceremony know that you actually are already married? That they're actually witnessing a do-over of vows and etc?
