1St David's Bridal appointment

Megan, on September 10, 2019 at 7:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
So at the bridal show I got talked into scheduling an appointment with David's Bridal saying if I spend over $75 I get $50 off. I didn't exactly want to go because I'm still in the early stages of planning and didn't want to waste their time if I don't plan on buying now. I'm hoping to try on a few styles ( I literally have no idea what kind of dress I want lol) and take a peek at bridemaids dresses and stuff while there. Any tips anyone has to be prepared? I was super overwhelmed at the bridal show because there was so much presented. I'm only taking my mom and maybe my aunt, to keep drama low.

I would definitely do some research into dress types before you go to the appointment to help you try some things you're considering. Otherwise, they'll just grab random dresses for you to try that may not be your taste at all!

Haha...I also got roped into a David's Bridal appointment at the first bridal show I went to. I ended up cancelling because I wasn't excited about it, it was really too early to go dress shopping, and the nearest David's Bridal is over an hour away. That being said, I think going with an open mind and no real intention of buying isn't a bad idea. I'd definitely recommend looking at dress styles beforehand - dress that might fit your body best, as well as specific things you like and/or want to avoid. I'd kind of treat this as a trial run for dress shopping since you still have so much time - just get a feel for what kind of options they have, what you like wearing, and how much you're willing to spend.

I bought my dress at DB and I’m really happy with it! My suggestion is to go online and find the dresses you like and bring screenshots of them, along with dress numbers. Also, be open to trying styles you wouldn’t naturally try. That is how I found mine! Make sure to bring appropriate shapewear/bras, shoes, etc.
Most importantly...bring a handheld fan! Trying on dresses is an aerobic activity and you will get warm!

Just want to say it’s totally fine to shop without buying ! So don’t feel any pressure even if they try to give you the pitch (my experience at DB was the sales girl wanting to make a sale and then trying to push me into loving a dress that was clearly not what I was looking for :/ )— relax and have fun with it and get a feel for styles!
The first store I went into (not dB), the girl asked if I had shopped before and when I said no she basically said “oh! So DONT decide on anything today! If you love something , I’ll wrote down the name for you and you can come back when you’ve really figured out if it’s the one” — so keep that in mind! No committing no matter what— you can ALWAYS go back. Remember to have fun Smiley smile

Trying on dresses is a great way to find what you do and don't like on you. Things often seem great in pictures but not so much when we try them on. I would also suggest looking at dresses to narrow down some ideas of what you are looking for, but be open to alternatives. I didn't buy my dress at either appointment, but both helped me determine that the style and fabric I wanted was right on me before I ordered my dress online.

Research dress types, find what you THINK you might like, but go in with an open mind, ready to try on something you never thought you’d like. If you find one you really like but you’re not ready to buy it, just tell them you have to think about it. Usually they’ll understand it’s a big purchase and you want to make sure it’s the right one. The David’s Bridal I went to wasn’t pushy at all with my dress selection (but I know they vary wildly at each one). Happy searching Smiley smile

I found it very helpful to go onto the David's Bridal website before my appointment to look at dresses. You can create a free account, which then allows you to check certain dresses as "favorites." Then when you're there in person, you can bring those favorites up on your phone, and ask the consultant to pull those for you. It's a real time saver, and you don't have to physically slog through a bunch of heavy gowns to find ones you like. You can still do that, of course, while you're there. But I found it really helpful to look online ahead of time.
