1st class or no?

Monique, on February 10, 2019 at 12:44 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 19
Will you be flying first class for your honeymoon or no? We are getting married and then going on the honeymoon right before Christmas. The flights are upped in price by quite a lot because of that. My fh and I have never flown first class before and with what we are saving on not having to pay for a hotel we could afford it. Part of me says for a 6-8 hour flight it would totally be worth it. However, I am having slight maybe it’s a total waste of our hard saved money thoughts. Have you considered doing this at all? What swayed your opinion?

For that long of a flight - If you can afford it, First Class is TOTALLY worth it!! I wouldn’t bother with a flight less than three hours, but more than that, if I can afford it, I’ll definitely buy the upgrade!!

We've done business class (or other similar names) which is nice because it's more room/service, but not as expensive as First Class. We flew 1st class to London (I think it was a 13 hour overnight flight?), and that was pretty darn nice! Smiley winking It really depends on how comfortable you are with spending more. Honestly, we're pretty "thrifty," so even though we can afford to spend more we don't like to feel like we wasted money on something that isn't really that important to us. We definitely splurge on things that we know we'll truly enjoy and appreciate. We fly cross-country fairly often, so while 6 hours isn't a short hop, it's typically over pretty quick, so we'd feel like it was a waste to buy 1st class tickets for that. We'd rather spend more on something more out of the ordinary for us, like amazing seats for a show/concert, an unbelievable meal/experience, or an adventure like hot-air ballooning. It just depends on your level of disposable income and priorities for how you want to spend it.

We’re going on our honeymoon right after wedding and my dad is helping with our flights and accommodations but even then I can’t justify the extra expense and this is coming from someone who normally pays to have a better experience. We’re going to Disney and Universal so those extra few hundred dollars for first class seems like a waste when Park admissions are $100 a day!

I was just looking into this. It’s not much more than economy but it seems like a good option.

Especially since you'll be flying over the Christmas holidays, a business-type/Comfort+ upgrade might really be worth the extra cost. You'll be a higher priority passenger, typically with larger baggage allowance and earlier boarding. For a likely crowded holiday flight, it will be nice to know that you're going to board early and have room for your carry-ons, etc. In addition, if by chance there is a weather or other delay, you'll be a higher priority for re-booking, if necessary. I'm still not sure I'd want to spend the $ for 1st class, but a mid-range option could have significant benefits. Smiley smile

Yeah I really want to go first class for everything but honestly feel like the pre Christmas travel rush makes it a bad idea for me and Glenn

we would rather have more pocket money or stay another day or 2 by flying cheaper

Have you ever flown first-class before?

We haven’t no so it’s a nice perk. We are only flying to Hawaii though and the flight now says it’s only 5.5-6.5 at the most. We may just not splurge.

Yeah we’re in the same boat again I’ve actually never flown first-class either so I really kind of do you want to do it but our flight is only be (I think) about five hours so it shouldn’t be terrible

im debating calling airline to price 1st there and cheaper for return trip so we can go 1st after coming off wedding excitement and as form of compromising with myself?

    wow
ww really Makes you realize how crazy you are when you start saying all your thoughts out loud and then reading them back yourself LOL

That’s actually a really great idea! Currently we are thinking of maybe just business class because Hawaiian airlines does this lie flat seat and it seems not useful for a 5 hour flight haha

That’s awesome on lay down seats! I’ve never heard of that...

i wish we were here going to Hawaii lol

we had someone say we can use their vacation home on beach in Oregon and it’s perfect because it’s free but it’s going to be cold and I’m pretty sure the northwest is rainy so I kind of feel like we should just tell everyone we left and hide at home instead of sit at home in a someone else’s house across the country lol

Oregon is very pretty though! We are only able to afford Hawaii because my fh dad is a member of rci and he used 3 years of points to get us the condo in December lol

I didn't want to because I wanted to save the money since we weren't even going to go on a honeymoon and now we're going on a very expensive one. But when I tried to convince my FH to fly coach, he said he'll contribute more money to the wedding so that we can fly first class. So that's what we're doing. He keeps saying "We only get one shot at this honeymoon, let's do it right!"

I've flown first class a few times. What airline are you looking at? Some are worth the extra money, some aren't. But for a 6-8hr flight, if you get those nice big recliner seats, I don't think you'll feel like you've wasted any money. It's a really nice treat. We flew first class from LA to Miami a few months ago on American Airlines and it was AMAZING! Such a nice treat! My only regret was that it wasn't a longer flight. Smiley smile

We are flying southwest, so they don't have a first class option.

Comfort+ is just economy class with a couple of inches of lag room. I went to Korea in comfort+ that is 16 hour flight for me.

Well it was cramped and the food was in boxes (the food was good). the siting in the international flight is 3 sits, aisle, 4 sits, aisle, 3 sits. other then that it was just as good as any other flight. my only thing I suggest the you get up and walk the aisle if your flight is longer then 5 hours.

I totally get where you're coming from. It can be tempting to splurge a bit on your honeymoon, especially when you're saving money on the hotel.
