1940's love songs??

Warrensarecool, on October 14, 2015 at 12:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hey yall! So I really love this idea that popped in my head, but I want to run it by you ladies before hand. While everyone is getting seated in the church (that's where the wedding is going to be) I want to play 1940's love songs. I've always loved that time, and I think there's something magical about it. I was going to have a vintage wedding, and I suppose I still can because I haven't really started hard core planning for it yet, but I've already bought my dress and it doesn't really go with the vintage theme. At least I think it doesn't; I could be wrong. I'll post a picture. My color scheme is blush (because of my dress) and grey. Which I think is lovely, but I don't know if it screams vintage?? So should I do the 1940 songs?? I love them and I think it would set the mood, but I don't even know if my mood is vintage anymore?? I hope all of this makes sense. Can I still go vintage with my dress and color scheme or do I need to let that theme go? Is my dress "vintagey" enough??

Not everything has to be vintage. As long as everything flows together. Honestly most people won't notice the music being played when being seated, but I think the 40s music is a good idea.

Just like JCB said, not everything needs to be vintage. But if you like a music piece suggestion, Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller is a great piece. Frank Sinatra later had lyrics added and sang with it

We had an early afternoon wedding without dancing....it was more a luncheon. So from my Ipod I played all 1920's-1930's music with some 1940's. Youtube is a great source, just type in 1940's love songs and download it through their MP3 converter. I was able collect 5 hours of music.

All of our pre ceremony and cocktail hour music will be older vocal jazz since it's my favorite. Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Etta James, Billie Holiday, etc. We aren't having a vintage theme by any means. It's just great music.

You guys are amazing. Thank you so much for your suggestions. I definitely didn't know that all of it didn't have to be vintage. That will help out so much. And thank you Heidi! I think it will look gorgeous. The wedding is going to be in the evening, just because I love night time, and I'm personally more relaxed at night lol. So I'm hoping the 40's music will relax everyone and set the tone.

Such a pretty dress Smiley smile

Just make sure your church actually allows you to play non-secular music. I've heard of several people that you can only play that. Your church might be more progressive though.

We're making a playlist for cocktail hour/dinner of 1930s-40s-50s music. It's basically all my fiance and I listen to, so we are so excited to make a playlist! I recommend "I Love You Too Much" by The Andrews Sisters.

CBtoCL I actually am not sure whether or not we're going to be able to do that yet. It's a Catholic church :/ and thank you all for the suggestions! I've written them down! lol
