1920s Theme

Laura, on July 6, 2018 at 4:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Since my wedding is taking place in 2020, I want to have a ‘20s theme. I’m not quite sure how to pull it off without it being too gimmicky or without missing the mark completely. Any ideas for how to pull this look and feel together???

Black and gold combined with simple, geometric patterns would be lovely. Very Gatsby.

You could always ask guests to wear 20’s attire, although depending on the size of your guestlist that may be difficult

We are doing a Harlem Renaissance theme so we'll have 20's/30's influences. We are doing a lot of things without it being over the top or gimmicky. The pianist that will play during the Champagne greeting, ceremony and cocktail hour will play music from the era. Our centerpieces are hydrangeas and feathers (I've posted them on another thread). My reception dress is a Sue Wong Flapper Dress (also on another thread). FH and my sons are wearing tweed suits. FHs daughters are wearing sequin dresses and headpieces. My headpiece has a Gatsby feel. Our wedding is Halloween weekend and we made our dress code on the website is "Flapper and Dapper". We also shared the theme with our guests and everyone is really excited. They keep wanting to show me their dresses and suits. Its been really fun so far!

We're doing a 20's, Great Gatsby style wedding. We're basically going for big lavish party. Peacock feather centerpieces, headpieces and fedoras. Mainly going for a fun vibe really.

Hi Laura! I love this idea, I think it'll be so cute! I think there are ways you can definitely make this work and look amazing! I would agree with the others above about making the color scheme black and gold. Are you thinking of having the bridesmaids wear flapper dresses? I attached some photos for inspiration of the bridesmaid dresses and a photo booth!

I heart this so much!! Our theme is vintage romance/ vintage elegance and our colors are gold, black, copper, silver and white (but only for my dress). We're doing it on NYE, so it will also tie into the feel as well.

Personally, I'm staying away from calling it Gatsby just because of how that story ended. (I don't want the bad vibes! Smiley smile )

Rather than making it an all out theme, just add hints and touches so it feels on point but not over the top.

I was just going to say whatever you do, don't call it Gatsby-themed! That story is a cautionary tale with a tragic ending. Not a good association to make with a wedding!

    Niiiice!

We're doing a 1930s one due to a show we both like, so we are going to incorporate a lot of the decor and clothing from it along with thinking of asking our guests to dress in 1930s fashion.

I've learned Pinterest is a great site for ideas along with random finds on the internet Smiley smile
