12 year old ring bearer?

Jordan, on October 22, 2017 at 5:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

So, I'm getting married next year and we've hit a wall concerning the flower girl and the ring bearer. Our flower girl is going to be 2, and we're gonna have a Jr. bridesmaid who is going to be 7. Neither of us has any younger male siblings except for my brother who will be 12 by the time of the wedding. Is this to old? Maybe he should be called something else?

That seems to old. Maybe don't have a ring bearers and have him read a poem enstead?

I am not using a flower girl or a ring bearer. I would have him walk down with the junior bridesmaid and just give the ring to your best man.

Doesn't really matter the age. Ours are younger, but will not actually "bear the rings" maybe your brother can be trusted with the rings at that age which would be cool for him.

Personally I think that is to old. Maybe have him do something else.. and not have a ring bearer.

I don't think you have to have all traditional WP roles, and I don't think they have to be gender specific. We wanted my two nieces and one nephew to be part of our ceremony. Otherwise, we wouldn't have asked them to participate.

My 12 yo niece was our ring bearer. She also was our chalice lighter and did a reading. My 4 yo nephew and 2 yo niece were our flower children. We actually asked the kids (the two older ones anyway) what they wanted to do. My nephew did NOT want to be the ring bearer. He wanted to throw the flowers. My 12 yo niece had already been a flower girl (when she was 5), and she was excited about having the responsibility of carrying the rings (she actually carried them) and lighting our chalice at the start of our ceremony. She was less excited about a reading, but she had the option of letting our officiant do the reading if it was too much for her.

I don't understand what being a ring bearer has to do with age? Of course it's not too old.

Also, maybe think about if 2 is too young for a flower girl. Unless she two about to turn three, she may not even have the hand movement dexterity to toss them right.

My niece who is two was a FG (mostly just for pictures, we didn't expect her to actually walk down the whole aisle and drop petals), and we didn't have a RB. You don't have to have people in all the roles.

My flower girl and ring bearer will both be 9 year old girls. We don't have any young male family members and don't even see why the ring bearer has to be a boy.

I would call him a junior groomsman at 12.

Middle schoolers hate being treated like little kids. Your brother himself might think he's too old to be a ring bearer.

12 is about the perfect age. I would NEVER trust my ring with a child any younger and if yo using give them the rings then they're just a prop with a name
