11 year old flower girl?

Hailey, on June 22, 2016 at 8:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

So in May 2017 my niece will be 11. I want her to be involved in the wedding. But I'm concerned that she might be too old to be a flower girl, but not old enough to be a bridesmaid. Her twin brothers (will be 7), will be escorting my mom and FMIL down the aisle.

Additionally, We don't really know any little girls that would be a more "traditional age" for a flower girl. So I'm kind of stuck. I've had this conversation with my mom and FH 10 times and we just say the same things over and over. I guess I'm looking for outside thoughts/opinions

You could always have her be a Junior Bridesmaid. I believe my oldest niece was 11 when my sister had her in her wedding as a Junior Bridesmaid.

She's not too old. My flower girl is 9. It'll be ok. Besides, I don't think anybody will look at her and go she's too old.

My daughter was FG in my friends wedding last year, she was 9. And she's super tall. She had fun, and it didn't look weird.

Maybe ask her which she'd prefer, if it's all the same to you either way.

My 11 year old FSD is my Junior Bridesmaid and she's so stoked. Skip the flower girl or have your bridesmaids throw flowers.

I went through the same thing, my stepsister is 11 and I couldn't decide how I wanted her involved. I finally came to the conclusion, the majority of my wedding party is made up of siblings (or friends my FH & I have known since we were kids, so we're pretty much related at this point), and it didn't feel right to not have her stand beside me during the ceremony. So, we decided Jr. Bridesmaid.

It's also been pretty fun shopping and having her involved like the other bridesmaids.

Ask her which one she prefers. I don't think she's too old to be a flower girl, but she might feel that she is.

I've known 11 year olds as flower girls & I didn't see anything wrong with it. If you'd rather her be a junior bridesmaid then that's an option yo

There is no "too old to be a bridesmaid" and people who say that irritate me. Some people have their grandma's be the flower girl. Our Jr bridesmaids are our daughter(16) and niece (14). They will walk with our nephew(2). Our flower girls are our other 2 daughters (14 and 9). So age doesn't matter. But at this age it is best to talk with them about what they want to do. Our younger daughters both chose flower girls

Ask her! I asked my 9 year old sister what she would rather do. She said she wanted to be a flower girl rather than being a jr bridesmaid.

I like @Fitz suggestion of asking her which one she would prefer to be. I personally don't think she's too old, but I'm of the mind that it's your wedding and you do whatever you want, however you want. I also agree with others about potentially not having an FG at all. I am not having one. The little girls I know are a bit too unpredictable. I'm not up for the possibility of a crying meltdown.

I was in a wedding and the 10 year old girl was the "bride's attendant." She carried the train (it was super long).

I would ask her what role/title she wants. I know I would have loved that kind of thing when I was 11.

11 is WAY too old to be a flower girl. In my brothers wedding in 2004 I was 11 and a junior bridesmaid.

Ask her how she feels about it. Some would be fine with it and some would be mortified at the prospect of a small child job. When I was 11 and when my 2 bio girls were 11 we were all a solid 5'3" to 5'4". We would have looked ridiculous as flower girls. Give her the choice of FG or BM

Ask her. Plain and simple. No one would think its weird but she might see it as a "baby" job. She could be a Jr. Bridesmaid or possibly could be "in charge" of the rings.

My flower girls will be 8 and they are super excited. On the other hand my cousins 8 year old turned her nose up at the idea and told me that it was a job for babies.
