11 weeks too early to send invites?

Rachel, on June 1, 2018 at 8:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Our wedding is 8.25.18...it's out of town for 97% of guests..with some guests only being about 1-2 hours away (say 40%). Some of those may get hotels. Our response date is by 7.20.18. I was going to mail them out today, which would give them roughly 6.5 weeks to reply and then give us 4.5 weeks to follow up with stragglers. Should I wait another week or two? Is 11 weeks too early?

Not at all. We are all travelling for our wedding, so I'm mailing ours out as soon as I get them, which should be early next week. The travel is going to require work and money for everyone, and it's a holiday weekend. Also, our hotel block expires July 2; so we definitely need to get these invitations out!

I think 11 weeks is more than okay for OOT guest invites.

I don’t think so! Typically it’s 6-8 weeks to send them out, but you can send them Further in advance if it’s a destination wedding, mine is after yours and I’m about to send mine!

I sent mine 12 weeks out. We have a little over half of our guests traveling (either flying or driving). We are also going on vacation next week so I wanted to get them out before we left. Our room block also needed to be booked 90 days out so I wanted everyone to get the information on that, I know a lot of people don't read the website.

Hey date twin! I actually sent mine out Monday with a response date of 7.25! I didn’t send STDs, so I decided a few weeks earlier than the 6-8 week “usual” was fine. Plus, who cares! I don’t think anyone will get the invite and think “wow this is too soon to be getting them”. Send away girlfriend!

Mine went out today and we're 8.31! We also have a lot of OOT guests and guests travelling an hour or so to come. And our RSVP date is 7.23! Also, with the way the hotel block works, ours closes mid July so I wanted people to have all of the info and have plenty of time to book rooms.

We are also getting married 8/25/18. I found many of my STDs took a bit longer to get to guests then anticipated, so we are sending out ours next week. I wouldn’t say it’s too early.

We have the same RSVP date. We mailed ours out May 21st. Gives our guests 8 weeks to respond and make travel arrangements. Id say about 75% of our guest list will be traveling from out of state.

You’re right on target! It’s considerate of you to send early as many guests may opt to stay in hotels rather than drive 2 hours after celebrating.
    Congrats & happiness always!

Did you sent Save the Dates? I'm sending those 10-11 months in advance, our wedding is also a ton of out of town guests. I'm thinking invites 2-3 months in advance, so 11 weeks seems fine! It just depends on when your final head count is for your venue & food.

Sent ours out about 10 weeks out bc most of guest list was OOS, so I think this is fine. Our wedding is next Friday and I mailed invites out in Mid-ish March.

I'm in favour of the earlier, the better. We sent ours out in January for a May wedding. People appreciate notice.

I sent mine at 10 weeks out because I needed to give my headcount 2 weeks out. So I really looked at it as 8 weeks from my headcount being due, which I think is perfectly fine.

Sending them out 4-5 months in advance is a no-no, however.

I dont think so, if you think about it, some people need 6 weeks to to take time off work, make travel arrangements, arrange fiances, and book a room in advance so there is availability.
