$10,000 Wedding. Should i hire a wedding planner?

Brittany, on March 8, 2021 at 8:49 PM Posted in Planning 1 15
So we are planning on having around 75 guests at our wedding in Sept of 2022. We are in Greenville, NC. I’m going crazy trying to plan my own wedding to be completely honest. Every time I dive into it, I get a migraine and super stressed. I’ve thought about reaching out to a wedding planner but I don’t know if it would be weird to say “yeah I want my wedding to be $10K or less” if that makes any sense. I’m bad at explaining things. 😅 I’m just wondering if it’s even feasible to hire one at this budget.

Honestly, $10,000 isn't a very high budget and depending on what all services you want a wedding planner can cost a significant amount that will greatly cut into your budget. My recommendation is to take one thing at a time in order to avoid overwhelming yourself. Also ask your fiancé for help with planning. Both of you are getting married so planning shouldn't be solely on you.

Get a day of coordinator no matter what your budget or guest count. You can plan a wedding easily with $10k. You just have to prioritize.

    Dear Brittany,

Because your budget and guest list is smaller, I would suggest against hiring a planner. Instead, look at all-inclusive services near your area (a lot of wedding venues offer all-inclusive services). Even some churches offer services for receptions, etc. if you're religious.

All-in-all, think less "wedding planner," and more "event coordinator," that is included in a package provided by a venue.

Thanks for your post! We pushed the wedding out by three years because of planning in 2019, haha!

Okay gotcha. The venues we’ve looked at have an event coordinator. So I guess we will just stick with that.

An event coordinator provided by the venue only cares if you follow venue policy. They do not act as the type of coordinator you want to set up and work behind the scenes which can be found on Yelp or Thumbtack.com

Also you can plan everything free on the boards here

I'd recommend getting a DOC (day of coordinator). Wedding planners tend to be very expensive and could easily eat into 50% of your total budget.

A planner would eat up at the very least 25% of your budget, so I wouldn’t personally recommend it.

What she said! Our day of coordinator is doing so much that our event coordinator isn’t, plus they have a planning portal that helps manage budget. So worth it!

Wedding planners can be pricey, and with a smaller budget, I don't think it would be worth it. However, there are some planners that offer smaller packages. Instead of a full service planner, you could get one that you only meet with a few times and they basically help you with certain things. That will be cheaper and help take some stress off of you. Also, a day of coordinator is definitely worth the money and, in my opinion, necessary!

Look into a day of coordinator like others have said. I had a small budget as well but spending the money on their package that starts 30 days out, has been a huge weight off my shoulders. It just depends on where you want to spend your money though!

    Brittany,
Since your venue has an event coordinator then I highly recommend utilizing them! Just make sure you give them the break down of what you want so they know. If you want things done in particular make sure to have it on a sheet for them. Have a copy for the day of in case they might have misplaced it.

I have a similar budget! I did get one but its a lot too look for one in your price range. There are some that have smaller plans that help 3 months before. I dont have any to help at my venue so I decided to get one.

We will be getting married in Holly Springs NC. We went with a company called mad dash weddings. They own a venue and catering company as well. They planned everything for us for 30 people (originally 50) for just under 10k. (9,950). You do get a say in what you want though. They have been really good to work with and I highly recommend them.

I wouldn’t bother. In the beginning days of wedding planning I wanted a wedding planner but they were quoting me $5000-$7000 for a $15,000 wedding for 50-60 people so I just decided to do it myself. It can be stressful, but you have enough time to take your time and plan it. I do suggest a day of coordinator. Maybe look at an all-inclusive venue.
