1 year anniversary cake - Thoughts ?

Michelle, on May 14, 2019 at 12:33 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
It seems as if wedding cakes are being replaced these days with cupcakes. I am getting married next year and we are in our late 40's. We are planning to bypass the "cake" idea and go with an extensive dessert table.

With that being said does anyone these days still do the 1 year anniversary cake ?

You certainly still could if you wanted to. Is the dessert table being provided by a bakery? They could make you a fresh 1 year anniversary cake of your choice 1 year later! A lot of bakeries now offer this option. My mom said the fun of it is putting it in the freezer but I don't think it matters either way to me, fresh or frozen. I am doing the cake but I am providing cake also! It's up to you though!

Good idea - I didn't think about doing a fresh cake. Just seems like a lot of space to take up in your freezer to save one. Seems silly.

Most bakeries in my area offer a free replica of the top tier of your wedding cake for your one year anniversary.

Our baker said he will make a replica of the top tier of our wedding cake for our 1 year anniversary! There is no way eating the same cake 1 year later would taste good anyway lol. Maybe just get the same type of cupcakes for your anniversary?

I think the tradition of saving the top tier has gone a bit to the wayside as people have come to appreciate that very rarely does cake hold up for a whole year in the freezer. Anyone I’ve ever known who has done it highly discouraged it after the fact, hah. They’ve said they threw it out after one gross bite so ultimately just wasted space in their freezer.

I would wholeheartedly support just buying a whole new fresh cake for anniversary celebrations though!

We're definitely not saving cake for our anniversary. However, we do fully intend to get cake from the same bakery on our first anniversary.

Our moms are kind of making us save it lol. I'm okay with it though. Our venue provides us with some small dessert as well..I'm a science nerd so I think I'm more interested to see what the cake looks like a year later lol

We are opting to skip the 1 year anniversary cake. Neither of us like cake and we don't want the calories lol. BUT with that being said, you could always get a cake a year later to celebrate your anniversary
