1.5 hour cocktail hour

Allie, on February 6, 2018 at 1:28 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
My fiancé and I are not planning on doing a first look, so we would like 1.5 hours after the ceremony to take photos. Do you guys think 1.5 hours for the cocktail hour is not too long? Thanks!

Cocktail hour is usually my favorite part of a wedding. As long as you have awesome food and drinks, I'm good with 90 min Smiley smile

Same! I just commented on another thread where the OP was considering shortening to 45 minutes, and I mentioned a lot of our friends have had extended, 90-min cocktail hours. I think that's awesome if you have multiple stations and passed apps. Gives guests more time to eat ALL. THE. FOOD.

Nope! 90 minutes is fine! Especially if you have the right amount of food and drinks - you'll be good!

I think most cocktail "hours" end up being 90 minutes anyway.

Mine was 1.5 hours and it didn't feel long enough! We had tons of apps, top shelf open bar, a solo guitarist, a firepit with chairs and blankets and lots of high/low tables so guests could enjoy mingling and relaxing. We had to convince people to go inside for dinner, lol!

As long as the food doesn't stop before that hour and a half is over, you should be fine. FI's BF's wedding the cocktail hour ended before the bride and groom showed up and we were waiting for like a half hour and food had already stopped at that point. We then waited another hour and a half to eat. Just make sure the food is still going to the end of the cocktail hour and you will be fine.

Depending on the location of your ceremony and reception venues, you could include a list of "Places to See" in your town. This could be a nice way for people who are unfamiliar with the area to explore. Especially if their are nearby parks or sites downtown.

We are having a long cocktail hour even with a first look because our room has to be flipped. I don't think it'll be too long! We'll have food out and the DJ even offered to bring a portable set outside for music. We'll also do some field games like corn hole and frisbee and maybe giant Jenga. I think it'll be a blast! (:
