Be warned food and alcohol are very expensive. You can bring food in but they x-ray every bag and will confiscate any alcohol you try to bring in (even duty free), and yes they are good based on the amount of stuff I've seen confiscated at customs. Most hotels seem to offer breakfast as included with the room rates, and we have found that if we eat a late breakfast we don't really need lunch- maybe just a snack we have brought with us- then we eat a decent sized dinner. Some resorts offer a half or full board package and there are a few that are all inclusive, but I didn't find too many that included alcohol. It was important to us to not be at a resort that caters to familes so we specifically picked one that doesn't allow kids under the age of 8. There are a lot of higher end properties that have family size rooms and kids clubs but we weren't interested in being around screaming kids during a romantic vacation so crossed anything with a kids club off our list early in the planning process. That's a quick overview of how we planned- I couldn't figure out how to send a message so hopefully this works- please let me konw if you have any other questions
We chose a resort that was about a25min boat ride from the main airprt. We wanted a hotel with an overwater room with a pool so that limited our options. We have since gone back and stayed in a beach villa which is now our favorite- you can't really go wrong with room choice though. B
Hi- I'm hoping this works so I don't end up with a huge post on the previous discussion. If you do decide on the Maldives, first choice is boat or plane transfer- Boats are cheaper ($150-250pp) than seaplanes or combo ($600+ pp). But the boat accessible islands usually have other islands in view and sometimes Male as well.
