What are some essential things I need to do my own makeup on my wedding day?

I have a beautiful dress but the train is super long. It's so long the wrist strap won't hold it all up to dance. Photo included. Do I just try to make it work or maybe buy a pretty second dress for reception? Any and all opionins welcome.
